Went to the drag strip last night with my 6 SPEED...

Finally, an answer to one of the hottest questions asked of the last couple of months! Overall, I was very impressed with the results. Only had time to make 1 run for the night, but don't think I could've done much better:

60 ft.: 2.31
1/4 mi: 14.386 @ 97.85mph

My car is BONE stock with 1,950 miles and I had the following:
-spare tire removed
-1/4 tank of gas
-35 psi all around
-about 65 F temperature

I think the time is in line with all the speculation everyone's been doing. And no, I can't yet post the timeslip since I don't have a scanner nor digital camera. Those that don't believe me can just wait until the next person runs similar times and is able to post them.

So what you all think?

you could probably get it to a 14.2 by working on your launch technique and lowering the tire pressure... 35psi is way too high for the fronts. Try a 31-32, i bet you'll get much better traction for the holeshot.

I guess acura was right on with their .5 seconds faster than AT est. oh wait.. that was 0-60... hmm

if thats the best a stock 6mt can pull off.. im somewhat disappointed. The 6mt Altima is still slightly faster in stock form. Damn those Nissan folk.

you should have no prob getting your 60fts down to 2.1-2.0. With tires and intake, you can probably hit a 13.9.

Awesome run! What were the other runs?

my2sense, are you forgetting that the Alty is a 3.5L and ~300 lbs lighter?

I still had faith that our 6mt could take the Altima.... anything to get those Nissan fools to shut their traps. Oh well, its still a close battle.

I also expected better times from the 6 speed. A stock auto hit 14.686 yesterday. So the 6 speed is only good for another 0.3?

How many gears did you have to row through in the quarter??

Those numbers look pretty good.
I glad one of those LAZY ASS 6-Speed drivers finally got to the track.

As for the comment above about it being ONLY .3 faster…..Acura says .5 improvement.
For TWO different drivers in TWO different cars in TWO different states, I really don’t think they can be compared THAT close.

xtyper,
Can you describe your run for us?
What RPM’s did you shift at and what gear were you in when you crossed the ¼ mile mark?
Did you have heavy wheel spin when shifting into 2nd?
I’ve noticed this to be a problem for me when I REALLY push it.

Dumbest comment ever.

Uhm the AVERAGE stock auto hits 14.9-15.1.

What kind of... person... compares the absolute best possible time for the auto to the only available run for the stick and acts like the stick sucks?

Hell, throw some heavier wheels on a 6mt and you might be slower than the AT.

For the record.....my wheels & tires are EXACTLY the same overall weight as stock if that comment was directed at me.

Thanks for posting your time! I've been wondering how much improvement the 6-speed would bring over the 5-AT times.

You have helped me take one more step towards giving the 1st Gen to my wife, and picking up the 2nd Gen 6-speed, this summer!

I look forward to sub-14 sec. 1/4 mile times (w/headers & CAI)!

Well holy shit he got a 14.3x and he only did make one run and he didn't do all the little tweaks like lower the tire pressure, so I'm sure you'll get your 14.2x out of someone's run.

But just like the auto cars, keep in mind one person who can pull a magical 14.6 stock doesn't matter if the rest of us have 14.9-15.1 cars. Unless we fly the 14.6 car around to every street race that a CLS gets in, a car that pulls 14.8s will take the average stock CLS. Because of this glaringly obvious fact I wonder why people get so excited when one car manages to pull a magic low number in the quarter - it doesn't make YOUR car any faster. Some of you act like someone else's car pulling a 14.6 suddenly makes your car that much faster too. Sorry, doesn't work that way.

Keep in mind that John (who's times you're comparing), has a crapload of mods..including CAI, headers, better tires, etc....

what kind of nonsense are you blabbing about and why do you get so defensive at other people's posts? I'm not living vicariously through his timeslips, rather I'm considering purchasing a 6mt CL-S myself, and was expecting/hoping for an intitial 1/4 mile run around the 14.2 range. I realize there is a standard devation factor here, but what I'm just trying to get a feel for the mean 1/4 mile time for a stock 6mt CLS. If the average 6mt can run a 14.3x then thats fine, if the average 6mt CLS can run a 14.2x then even better.... thats what i wanted to hear.

Thanks guys for all the props.

Shawn S, I made sure to shift at about the 7,000 mark everytime, and by the time I crossed the finish I was a bit into 4th gear.
As for 1st to 2nd shift wheel spin, I didn't notice anything considerable, but then again I'm not a "power" shifter. I hope you head out to the track soon so we have someone to back up these times.

Long live the 6 SPEED!!!

xtyper can you typr in the split times and mph at 1/8th.
Just curious.
The 60' I would think could be 2.0 or better, but I dont know how the hard it is too launch a FWD car. Wheel hop or spin??
Even if you ran a 2.15 60' compared to the 2.3 that would translate to .2-.3 difference at the end.
Your mph at the 1/4 is higher than I would have thought, congrats!!!! The car is making power, just launch a hair better. Are the automatics getting 2.2's - 2.3's ?? Were you trying to launch concentrating on the "tree", if so so screw the tree and when you see the first yellow, then dont pay attention to the tree anymore and concentrate on your launch regardless of R/T.

Congrats on a "Time well done" : ).

Damn...I'm impressed. Get that 60' down to 2.10-2.15 and you are right at 13s.

I can't get over that trap, 97+ is really strong.

Good going...

I'm going to guess that the tranny losses are probably only 13-15% vs the nasty 20=23% of the auto box.

(And you get that extra 10+ of torque and HP through the full power range...)

IMO, the add-ons (header, tires, light wheels, and CAI) should do even more for the 6-speeds...

The hp estimates for headers and cai were all taken at the wheels, which means these gains are based on the tranny gearing.
So we really don't know what the gains will be in the manny tranny, could me more could be less. The manny goes through gears quicker, so it may spend more time outside the max hp band, or more time in it.
I hope we do see some time slips of modded mannies hitting into the 13's.

For track times, a bone stock auto goes 14.6 and everyone is upset?? Now since the manny needs to go into 4th to finish the quarter, that leaves 4 points of possible screwup, the launch and 3 shifts. Since everyone wants to talk average auto times vs average manny times, the average person is not accurate at shifting. So the 14.3 time may be a very good time for the manny.

Nope, however, a bone stock m6 goes 14.3x and everyone is, "OMG OMG THAT SUCKS WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THE STICK OMG WTF BBQ." Is it so hard to comprehend it was the first and only run of a 6mt at the track? Calm the F down and wait until more people make some runs before you get panties all bunched up and whine about the m6 sucking or whatever your problems are.
That was my point. At least some people here can accept a 14.3 for the first ever run without any tweaks is pretty friggin' great. I can't wait to see one with intake, headers, exhaust, pulleys, etc, pulling close to mid 13s.

...

And with an SC and 8psi, high 12s are only a RWD suspension away.

Wait a sec, If I managed to drop from 14.9s to 14.6s at the same track, same day, same car, same driver... with my Auto CLS, I am sure in his 6-speed he can hit 14 flat with just few tweaks....

Quick Reply: Went to the drag strip last night with my 6 SPEED...
