Well well well

Brought my car to my mechanic last night so he could check it out before my warranty expires (car is at 49,9xx miles). I specifically asked him to check out the rear main oil seal because of all the issues I've seen on the board. Turns out there definitely is some oil leaking. The engine side is dry but the tranny side is wet.

Also, apparently I have a leaking steering rack. Good thing I had him check it out!

Good catch . . . and I think there is a TSB out on some sort of oil leak.

Dealer can't fit me in until May 3rd. So I'll have an update sometime after that.

UPDATE: Dropped the car off at the dealer this morning. Got an RSX loaner . Turns out it is the rear main oil seal as I expected.

They said there was no problem with the steering rack. They noticed some seepage, which they said is expected, but they noted it and said that if I still see problems with it they'll take care of it. So I'll keep an eye out for that.

Have to say once again to Acura of Peabody.

P.S. - They don't have the parts for the fix so I have to bring it back in a few days.

Good catch, and your welcome. I believe I was the first unlucky person to find this issue.

Thanks. If it wasn't for Acurazine, half of my car would be broken and I wouldn't even know it!

Just soaked the bottom of the engine. Actually the Tranny was wet.

Mine was dripping onto the driveway. I also had the same problem with the steering rack and it was replaced under warranty.

No dripping on the ground for me. But the bottom of the engine was oil stained and wet. There's a picture somewhere of a member's car with the problem.

I jacked the car up a bit tonight and took a photo.

Should I be concerned?
You think I have an issue or is this a normal amount of dirt on there ???

Looks like slight seepage but not abnormal. When my rear main went, I was leaving drops. Probably worth putting Acura on notice next time it's in so if it does get worse, they have a record.

I go to the dealer tomorrow for my 30K service.
I’m going to mention this to them and also the idle problem I was having a few weeks ago.

I just changed my oil the last week and looked underneath. My undersurfaces were completely dry. I didn't have the dirt sticking that Shawn is showing.

Shawn, yours doesn't look too bad. Mine looked a lot worse than that. Like Allout said there is a little seepage, just let the dealer know about it and they will note it.

is that the seal that went bad in your car mc_yanzo?

dang! thats a lot of work to change that thing. so if we had to get it replaced without the warranty it probably would cost a fortune.

Yeah, rear main oil seal. It's located in the back of the tranny. They need to pull it out to replace it.

I think a member on the board had to pay for his. I'm not 100% sure but I think he said it was like $800 or something. So I HIGHLY ADVISE that all members check this out before their warranty expires!

I had my 30,000 Mile service done today and I mentioned the residue on the Tranny.

They checked the Tranny fluid level and said it was OK.
So all they did was clean up the area and noted to “keep an eye on it” at my next service.

Oh well…at least it’s on record if there is a future problem.
