We have cool windshield wipers!

Ok, I have had my car for close to 5 months now and I just noticed something. When you stop and you have your wipers on, they slow down. Is that not cool or what?

Hey, good catch. I, too, thought the switch was f'ed up because sometimes it would speed up or slow down...never noticed it was related to vehicle speed!!

and no matter what, when you lift your foot off the brake, the wiper will go across...very good thinking by Acura

Yep, the timer is tied to the brake system. Honda also has this system. My 98 Accord V-6 had this system. Cool idea.

I still think it sucks because you cannot lift the passenger side to clean/wash it without doing some tricks! That sux big time!

I think it does to a point. I always thought I was going crazy when I would have the timer set to the slowest, but it would go frequently (most of my commute is on 55mph roads). Then, when I would get to the side roads, it took forever. Then I figured it must be speed sensative. I don't know about the braking thing that Astroboy pointed out. Not sure if we have that. I'll have to look for that next time it rains / snows....

Before you start bragging over on the IS300 forum ...

The 'speed sensitivity' is a bit limited...at least based on what it says in the manual. It does NOT know how much it is raining. Even Homer could tell this one.

ONLY way to get the 'sensitivity'...
put it on Intermittent but FULL ON (at speed it behaves just like low speed)

the result...
At speed the wipers run as if on Low speed, stopping causes them to go on Intermittent...

BFD. I've tried it. Double BFD.

Yeah!

What tricks do you use? Lift the hood first or something?

I haven't discovered any yet other than taking it off. It's a pain to turn on the wipers and then turn off the key in mid-swing. When you turn the key back on, they continue on right on top of your just cleaned windshield! Oh well. Small item in exchange for that sweet sound at full throttle!
