Are we doomed since the word is getting out

I was thinking this...the word is getting out about the CLS and its tranny problems...who in there right mind would get one if they know what they are getting...are we who already own one gonna get screwed(as if we didnt get screwed enough in the first place)when we try to sell or trade....really if everyone came to this site before they got a cl no one would buy one(i wish i would've known about this site)

I would have thought about the CL-S more before buying if I knew about it. That is what I get for not doing my research.

I'd still get the car in a heartbeat. Come on, the tranny has a 100k mile warranty. Resale @ 100k is a non-issue for ANY car.

Besides, most CL's never have a tranny problem. Alot of those on this site have had replaced trans, but most of us are also a rather aggressive group of owners who really work the tranny hard day in, day out.

I'm on my first trans w/ 75k miles...I've been blown for about 6k now. No probs so far and I honestly doubt I ever would have a problem had I stayed NA. With the S/C who knows, but the car wasn't originally designed w/ a blower in mind anyway.

everyone needs to stop whining. You don't by a car for an investment anyway. I guess I'm one of the few that's keeping it for the long haul.

i'll either - a) run my car into the ground and buy an upgraded tranny if needed

or

b) be making enough money to where i don't care

i think i'll do both.

Fawk i would pick up a CLS with decent miles still. I mean the resale sucks so bad that i can get one for under $20k i bet! Not bad for a car with 260hp and a bad ass Navi.

i agree with you. no better car right now for 15k, 16k, or the 17k i paid for my 29k mi 01 type-s.

ppl will still want this car in 2-3 years, and it's ALREADY made its big drop in resale value. won't get too much worse, at least no relatively.

i didn't find out about the tranny problem till the day after i got my car (i was kinda pissed, but didn't do any research so thats what i get). but i probably still would've gotten one had i known cause even with the potential tranny problems (which are covered under warranty) the CL is still a great car for the money. and so far i've been lucky (just got the recall done, hopefully thats a permenent solution)

Agreed. I leased my car, but I have regretted it for a long time now. I'm definitely buying her out at the end of the lease term, and I'm going to keep her forever.

But as soon as I can run consistent low 13's without nitrous, I'll be calling the project quits and getting another car. Not to replace the TL-S, but an extra one. It's gonna be a long way to go, but it'll be fun.

The bad word definatly hurts the resale value. But I think it only hurts the resale when we are dealing with the educated cosumers who do a lot research before buying a car(like browsing internet message boards). Typical consumer will not spend a lot of time researching Acura models. They go by Acura reputation and promising words of a sales person. I am sure Acura dealers won't even mention transmission issue, and if you ask - they will assure customers that the transmission problem has been completly fixed by the recall. In fact, majority of people are not aware of how serious this problem is, some don't even know the problem exists....(unless they had a transmission failure). Don't worry about Honda, the coroporation is clever, and it will not go bankrupt because everyone will stop buying Honda products.... they will survive

I read all the posts before I went out to buy one. I had the final toss up between the CLS and a Lincoln LS V8 and I chose the CLS so I think we don't have a problem with that. Also if you talk to people out there very few even know what the internet is let alone reading posts at a forum for a car that they don't own.

That's the way I look at it. I ain't worried about resale.

Tranny recall

I would think that the fact that Acura has finally issued a recall and come up with a fix for the problem is a plus. Anyone who was aware of the problem before the recall knew that the likelihood of a tranny failure was high, as was another one after it was replaced.

Now, at least, with either the fix or a new tranny installed, potential buyers may purchase a used auto CL without fear of future disaster.

First of all recall does not do much to correct the problem, its just a band aid (you can read more in Transmission FAQ forum).
Second, I bought a new 2001 CLS, at that time even on internet nobody knew that transmission was a problem. The word was really out by 2002 and up.
And yes, if I ever buy a 3-4 year old (used) car, I will go on internet and do some reading and research. There is no way I would buy 4 year old Acura CLS. Why take a risk? I can buy instead Infinity, at least I will know transmission will be OK.

Let me say this. If you are leasing this car for 3 years, and its your life style to change cars every 3 years, sure it does not matter if the transmission will fail or not...you are covered anyway..(well, maybe inconvinience , but at least you dont pay for it).
But for people like me, who keep cars well beyond 100K miles and around 10 years, this information about transmission failures will definatly turn me away from buying a used CL. You don't want any negative information (even if its blown out of proportion) about a car you plan to keep for 10 years. Why bother, there are others that dont have this issue.

Whatever you do, don't take that S/C out. My tranny was fine when the blower was in there, but it has been deteriorating ever since I went back to stock

Holy %#@$...that 1/4 mile time is phenomenal!!!

The S/C was definitely the best mod ever! Thanks for hooking me up! That reminds me - I need to get up to Vancouver for some sushi soon...Mmmmmm, sushi.

It seems to me that Acura has fessed up to the two years they produced bad trannies. They have offered a recal and a 100,000 mile warranty on it to give people a piece of mind. I feel that all the replacement trannies are solid and will last just as long as anyone would expect a tranny to last.

Exactly. As the FAQ shows, up until now Honda/Accuras replacement is also going to blow soon.
If we are going to sell the car at 99K do you really want to stick someone else with a time bomb lemon tranny? If you do then you suck. For that matter those of use who keep it beyond 100K, what happens if/when the tranny blows at 101K? BooHoo the warranty is no longer valid? We need to see if Honda/Accura is going to do a replacement that is solid.
