way to keep my car a sleeper

dont want n20 or nitrous. dont wanna risk that. but i mean i wanna beef up the car a little but make it sound really close to stock. i dont want exhaust or headers, too loud, and i think it wouldnt be right on my car. maybe an intake, as that would only be loud at higher rpm's. but what about a chip or anything else that would make me stand out from all the other stock cl-s's preformance wise.

thanks

btw-i have an 03 cl-s 5at

3.5 liter upgrade would do it.

You don't leave alot of options open .. I can tell the sound of an AEM intake a mile away. Might be better off with an icebox. Headers change the sound of the car less than intake does .. plus they add alot of power. I'd go CT icebox and headers.

and I know you said no nitrous .. but a properly installed NX wet kit 50 shot really has no danger. The only dangerous thing about spraying nitrous is if you lean out .. the wet kit insures proper nitrous\fuel mixture.

nah, want to keep the same motor in. basically leave all the internals, motor, all of it stock. just looking for a little add on booster to set me apart from the other stockies.

thanks

lol you keep the same motor with the 3.5L upgrade .. if I recall its a crank, rod, piston, and head swap? correct me if I'm wrong.

but your best bet for quietness is CT icebox, and CT headers. You wouldn't notice the sound of my CT headers unless you had them and knew what they sounded like. But people would notice the sound of the AEM intake. I've heard the icebox is alot quieter.

i never even see a CL let alone assume it's stock but headers add 0 descernable noise... the ice box is highly recomended and when and if the hood gets opened it looks stock...if you plan on running from a stop you'll want tires...a chip will be around sooner than later

If you want the sound clip I can take it with my digital camera .. where from though? back of the car of the exhaust? in car? front of car?

As for pics of the icebox .. I have an AEM can't help you there. Search, or try www.comptechusa.com

The supercharger shouldn't make too much of a difference in sound at idle anyway, but it will make a visual change under the hood.

wherever it would sound the loudest. i mean, im not totally sure i even wanna do headers, as that is gonna prob cost me well over a grand. icebox i might consider, but i know that wont do much for performance wise.

thanks for everyones help so far.

visual and sound are important to me. i want to look and sound stock. i know its a hard for that to happen but a chip and maybe the icebox would be a perfect combo.

so whats the problem with this chip. i dont feel like reading 500 pages of stuff, if someone could explain in brief.

for a quiet but stealthy quiet ride try:

icebox - comptech(250)
headers - stone(400), obx(300), or comptech(1000)
AEM or Unorthadox crank pulley - (depends on where purchased)

Prices are for parts only and are just rough estimates....

I like a quiet but powerfull car also (easier to pick up teenage girls from their parents house at 2 AM)

CT Icebox sounds and looks stock. Go that route -- you'll have more hp/torque thru the band versus stock.

Headers are more $$$ and only impact the high revs, actually losing HP down low.

Get both if you have the moola.

yeah I don't feel like reading about the chip either, but since I don't see anyone running around buying one I'm assuming there is no chip as of yet.

As for the sound clip of the headers .. its hard to tell you where I could take a clip that it would sound the loudest. Because it really hasn't changed. I still just hear my intake. If anything, it might've changed the sound of the stock exhaust but I'm telling you NO ONE would notice .. unless they had a CL with headers and knew the tone.

although I've been sitting in a parking lot when an S2000 with a comptech blower rolled by me at idle .. and I could hear the blower a mile away. noticeable S\C whine. Is the CL blower just as loud?

All blowers have a noticable whine (its the gears)

Some are more noticeable than others.

Not necessarily true .. they are definetly the best money I spent on the car so far. I don't think any HP is lost down low. Yes, the majority of your gains are up in VTEC at high RPM, but the car all around feels healthier and even at midrange RPM the car needs less pedal and effort to "go".

This is true .. when I heard that S2K idle by me it was VERY noticeable .. Lightnings and 03 Cobra's are also very loud blowers .. but the Whipple Supercharger on my friends 454 is practically SILENT .. when he bought it they told him it was the quietest supercharger on the market .. man they weren't kidding. at idle you hear no whine.

go for headers/icebox/pulleys/level 10 torque converter/king motorsports tb/basic weight reduction.. that should do the trick.
