waxing car?
depends how long your car has been on the lot before you bought it. 30-40 days after the car is newly painted to let the paint cure ( depending on the weather, too ). if the car has been on the lot for longer than 30 days, it should be okay! usually the dealer waxes your car before you drive it out of their lot! pohanka acura did that for me....not sure what kind of wax they used, though!

I waited 6 months, but should have waxed it at about the 3-month period instead.

I waited 3 months (thinking that this was the old days).
Old paint treatment story:
I had some paint jobs courtesy of some bad drivers bashing my next to last car. The painter's always said, "don't wax the car for at least a month and keep it clean with cold water, mild car shampoo..."
After talking with a great detailer and Sal Zaino (about my new Acura), they said the paint is ready to go. The paints have changed, so they are ready for a Zaino or whatever.
So, I kept it clean for 1st 3 months by hand washing and by picking up little bits of bugs, tar, road yuck, other "bits" by tamping a damp pure cotton towel over the little stuff to keep the finish clean.
(Isn't this a detailing question?)
