Washing your car after installing AEM CAI

So do I have to be extra careful now when washing the car...specifically the engine when I use the Gunk stuff to clean up the engine bay area??

No. An engine is an air pump. The danger with a CAI is that water can get SUCKED into the engine, so unless you wash your car with the motor running... I wouldn't be too concerned! And even then, they say you need to completely submerge the filter to suck up water - pretty hard to do even when cleaning your engine.

You would be surprised what some people will do with their cars. For example, I had some guy tell me that the inside of the mufflers become dirty and you loose HP. So he recommended a full pressure washing through the tips. Real good results there!!!!Esp. if your pipes are not Stainless Steel.
Can you say RUST ROT!!!What a Dumb ass.

So bottom line is even though I'll be spraying the engine directly and possibly the filter at the end of the CAI it wont matter since the car isn't running ?

Intake is like a straw... you don't get jack unless you submerge it.
The thing you want to be careful of is electricals.
Sometime a good thing to have the car running while cleaning the engine (especially with old cars).

Exactly. I supposed if you're really paranoid about it you could even wait til it dried before starting the car. But that's not necessary. Like others have said.... you pretty much need to completely submerge the filter in order to suck water all the way to the engine.

MY concern after washing the car is that the soapy water rinses off the Oil on the filter and you have to take it off often to clean and oil it. That'll be a BITCH....

If your really concerned about getting the filter wet and want to take the time to: wrap the filter with plasctic saran wrap.

THEN unwrap and start the engine for 5-10min to stream the moisture out.

Yeah leave it like that all the time. Never have to worry about water (or performance).

Eric,
I think you ought to get one of those plumbers helpers that expand and fill out to the pipe you put them in...that'll "clean" out the exhaust!

You definitely need to clean and re-oil the filter at certain intervals. I'm not sure what those intervals are though. K&N would be able to answer that however! And also, whatever people on here tell you about cleaning it... you'll probably have to do it twice as often since Tucson has a bit of a "dust" problem!
