Warped Rotor Problem

We have an '01 CL and an '01 TL, both with about 25K miles and both with the warped rotor problem mentioned on this Board.

My Questions: Is there an "official" Acura policy regarding how this problem is handled, or is each case dealt with individually? Do they typically replace pads as well as turn the rotors? Anything else I should know before I contact the dealer?

Thanks for your help,

Steve

Yes, ask for TSB017 service. It has been my experience that a rotor truing is useless unless you have the pads that TSB017 calls for. Do a search here for TSB017, or obtain from Acura.

See TSB 01-017.. Ask Acura for a copy of it, or maybe somebody can post it here..

Any input on whether or not Acura will pick up the cost for truing? For pads? Acura customer service says its normal wear and tear, so no $$, but that my dealer may pick it up as "good will". I'd like to know what's going on here before tackling the dealer.

Thanks,

Steve

My 2001 CL was fine on its original rotors for the 25,000 that I owned it.
My 2003 is starting to show signs of a warping problems and I haven’t even hit 11,000 yet.

read the bulletin, it is very specific

they are not doing you a favor replacing pads and truing rotors, they are supposed to if warped

It is not normal wear or a "good will" thing with the dealer TSB017 should make the dealers turn the rotors and give you new pads if you have the problem. I didn't know about this and last year my dealer gave me NEW rotors and left the same pads on at no cost. I would make sure you ask for the pads.

At 48,000 miles, I went to the dealer and said that I was experiencing "pulsing" brakes. I mentioned that I understood there was a TSB for the problem. They turned the rotors and replaced the pads for no charge. Politely suggest you have heard that there is a service bulletin out for warped rotors. You should have no problem getting them fixed.
