Wanted to stop in to say goodbye

All,

Its been a great 4 years, but I am sorry to say I must be leaving the Acura CL community. I have primarily been a lurker, posting only a few times or so, but nonetheless, this was a very important site for me.

I traded my 01 CL-S in on Friday for a new Pontiac GTO. I was sorry to see the CL go, but I do really love my new GTO.

IMHO, Acura will continue to lose valuable customers as they continue to ignore the value of a manual rear wheel drive sedan/coupe.

I wanted to thank all of the supporters and contributors here. You all helped me:

-Find a tint shop in VA
-Change out my springs and shocks
-Upgrade my stereo
-Take care of several TSB issues.

All of you have been great and I wanted to drop on in one last time and say that.

Best of luck to you all.

Stick around and be sure to take pics and tell us about your GTO experiences. It's definitely worth sticking around for these 3 posts that WILL eventually show up here in car talk or racing stories:

GTO = GTSLOW! I JUST BEAT ONE WITH AN AUTOMATIC!

PONTIAC GTO IS A POS OMG H8TER!

COMPARE AN ACURA TO A POS DOMESTIC?

The one thing i really need to ask you is:

Dont you feel driving a pontiac is beneath you, having owned the ultimate vehicle on the planet?

Hahah Sean. Ya i will check in from time to time.

There was a time when I was quoted as:

"I will never buy GM, too much freaking plastic and the interior sucks ass"

Then this new GTO comes out. You can tell its not really American. The interior is just outstanding, the best in an american car ever (not my words, about every car test mag out there) and I tend to agree. Its about 95% of what I had in the CL-S.

I will miss my Acura when it snows though. Guess I will just have to stay home now on those days.

Best GTO site for me so far has been www.ls1gto.com

Just like here they are a great set of people.

And while I would love to hear race stories about CL-S vs GTO, they really are two different cars. I am sure that the best modded CL-S can take a stock GTO, all bets are off once the serious mods are out for the GTO.

But thats not what it was about for me.

I wanted to get back to semi-luxury, good handling, rear wheel drive and manual transmission.

It's Australian and it's been around for awhile. I don't think they have many bugs to work out. Have you seen them race the Holdens on the Speed channel? Thay can hold their own.

I agree about the Never buy a first year car quote,

I did that with my CL and I was always scared of my tranny going.

But like the previous poster said, what we call the GTO has been in production in Australia for several years, and the LS1 engine and Tremec 6spd tranny are battle tested and pretty much bulletproof. So I think I am safe. (Knocks on wood)

The Holden HSV is just plain scarry. Some people have twin turbo set ups over there....

The trunk is probably the biggest let down. Its small.....as in two golf bags ontop of one another small.

In a Holden its huge, larger than our Acuras, but not so for the GTO.

The reason for that is that for US crash test standards, they had to move the gas tank away from the bumper and inside the frame. So its effectively in the trunk. There is talk that if the GTO gets production renued beyond the 3 year scope, they will work on a better design for the new body style.

Starting next year, the Holden buyers are going to be pissed because they are getting our gas tank in their trunk. (Its a common assembly line).

But on the plus side, the car is wider and roomier inside, and there is a little more back room space for passengers.

The new Acura/Honda lineup does not impress me at all(minus the nsx, but thats a little more than i can afford)
I've owned one of each and i really doubt ill buy another one.

Good luck with the new car. I'm not a Pontiac enthsiast, but I know the new GTO is not 'your father's pontiac'. I wouldn't have bought the 01 CL either, (no manual). I love the CL 6 speed. Perfect car for me. Hope your Pontiac is as reliable.

I did watch C & D tv this weekend and they said the GTO was crap. The Holden has been in production for 2yrs and there are still a lot of problems that need to be worked out. GM is going to have to stand on top of Holden and make sure they get the problems fixed or it will be a worthless car. With 18k a year for 3yrs they probably won't get it right by the 3rd year.

No seat warmers
no navi option

VA-CLtypeS, congrats on the purchase. The GTO is a fine vehicle IMO and should be a worthy replacement.
