Hey:

Check this out from vtec.net - apparently from the mouth of American Honda's Executive VP, Tom Elliot:

OMG OMG OMG:

Manual Tranny in the CL for 2002
Submitted by TOV News on April 25, 2001 at 20:55:37:
In the April 23, 2001 Automotive News, American Honda's Executive VP, Tom Elliot makes reference to a manual transmission appearing in the CL for 2002. Below is a clip that was submitted anonymously to us.

In response to Automotive News' Question of: "You still refuse to confirm the rumours of a V-8 engine coming for Acura."

Elliott's response was:
"It's still out there, and it's not close enough to talk about. Acura still has
to focus on our volume sellers like the TL and RSX, and some new things for 2002
like a manual transmission for the CL."

Doug or Syncivic WON the bet! he was not BSing afterall, Congrats for Doug and good luck his 3.5 (Bi-turbo?) FI CLS 3.5, and for Acura too, and I am sorry for those who bought their CLS and wished they got the manny.

Why you guyes gettin so twisted?

Its not like their redesigning it. Their adding an optional tranny.

And theres a new color. Big deal.

The same shit happens with EVERY car.

And its good for us... progress just means youll have one more choice when you buy youre next car.

Lets not turn this into a I hate Acura thread since weve all been begging them to do this from the first place.

That's a good point. You beg and plead for them to do it, then scream at them for doing it. Gee, that makes sense. Would you have been upset if they'd added 10 HP as well? Cars evolve and get better every year, that's kinda the point.

I guess this means I shouldn't get my CL-S just yet. I should wait for some '01 owners to sell theirs and get an 02 manual.

Not at all.

Its not like they added a 6-speed auto... or a true manumatic like an 360modena/M3.

Its just an additional option.

I think if half of you were to go shopping for your CL for the first time youd choose the auto again. Even if it was an option.

Theres nothing to get mad about... if you trully wanted a manual... you shoulda got a diff car. If you want one now... go ahead and trade your car in! Why not?

Well said Soopa!! I mean there are so many posts where you guys were asking for a manual...and well, here you go! Acura is listening..You can always try trading, although with the new manual, I am sure the current type-s value is going to drop because of the lack of demand.

Current Type-S value will not drop because of this.

It isnt like it makes anything in the current S obsolete.

All it does is give you another tranny option... an option that 90% of the market for this car doesnt want.

Resale value will remain steady... if anything this will create a lil more awareness for our car across the market.

After 16 years of driving harsh-riding "non-luxury" 4 cyl and 6 cyl coupes, the main reasons I bought the CL were the excellent V6 engine AND the auto tranny. Makes it hella easier to sip that triple-half-calf mocha-latté-with-a-twist on the daily commute to the orifice...er...office.

Just an old fart's $.02

Another good point...I didnt think of it this way. Sometimes I am on this board so much that it makes me think that if the people on this board want it, then everyone that buys acura's want it too

Anyhow, doesn't this make you wonder if someone from acura headquarters is visiting the board but just not posting because of the questions and flaming he/she would get??

Take this, OKay, maybe they are gona offer a a 6-speed stick. But, let us say, they offered a 6-speed SS with 100ms shifting time and you shift yourself 1>2 too.

Are you gona have the stick or the 6-speed, 0.1 sec, Sport Shifter....?

You know what I want, what about yourself?

As it stands, if they come out with the manual for 2002, I'd probably eat 3G for it. Granted, there are some very nice new cars coming out for 2003 (which will be May-Sept 2002), like the Z, (hopefuly Chrysler Crossfire), and the Newly redesigned Maxima will be here. Not only that, but the new Chevy hardtop-convertible pickup the SSR will be out, and who knows whatelse.

2002-2003 will be a VERY good year.

Well, I couldn't give two sh!ts if and when they do come out with the manual tranny. When I bought my CL-S, I was specifically looking for a luxury car with an automatic transmission that came fully loaded as is. I didn't want to buy a car that came bone stock and I had to fork over another several grand to get all the goodies(ahem, cough, BMW...isn't there a charge for that auto tranny option?). Besides, I do about 95% city driving so it's more practical for me...I've grown quite disgusted with the chore of stepping on a clutch to shift gears...especially during rush hour. Also kind of hard to talk on my cell phone when I have to shift...makes me feel like a human pretzel. With the auto CL-S, I drive in style, no hassles about shifting/stalling, great overall value, and about 99% of the drivers out there fear and respect the S. They leave me alone...especially the majority of the punk ricers

Also, if I were to go full out race mode...like autocrossing and hardcore drag...the CL-S wouldn't be my first choice. I would shop around for a lightweight, FR or MR(depending on budget) car uniquely devoted for that sport. The CL-S is, and always will be(till I move on), my daily city driver.

I second the tight ratio 6-speed auto. Add a sport/auto/normal switch for drivers to change the ECU programming of the transmission. In sport keep the shifts in the 100 millisecond range.

I'm still thinking about the heel-toe (braking) cues for the downshifts (feels so stupid in an auto - my opinion...)

I also want the 1->2 and 2->1 in SS. If someone is a duffus, then so be it. At this rate, we will all end up running around the streets in 2" thick bubble wrap (for our own good and our own protection!!!)

The 6-speed auto is gravy, and would satisfy the "Chuck Yeagers". We do have a long 4th and 5th gear for good fuel economy. The 6-speed auto would get good fuel, and better accel. through all gears.

I had a 4-speed Maxima, and it was brutal trying to pass in that thing in 1st gear. If they had of put in a 5-speed auto, it would have been kick-ass for passing POS trucks up in the hills. I could never get enough speed up in 1st gear to pass around stake trucks -- Ouch!

Man, stop the bitching...

Even with a stick as an option, all you bitches really believe it's going to make the CLS that much better? Come on and get real....if Acura is listening, please order up a new CL TypeS that is RWD! This front wheel drive bullshit gotta go...and oh yea..if a RWD comes out, make sure you have a manual transmission as standard to match the "sport" car facad.

All I want is for the freakin' rattles to go away and the muffler to not hang lower than the other side....I paid $30k+ for a car and I don't want to hear rattles god dammit.
