Volvo C70 Coupe/Convert.

i was just pricing both online, and i gotta tell ya, these cars are pretty decked out...especially the sound system...Dolby ProLogic 12 speakers w/ 400watt amp...only 3 CD-changer in the dash, but i can live with that...and it also has the antenna in the rear windshield feature...with the wood inserts (real wood), it looks pretty fancy...don't think it's worth an extra 10K+ on ours, but nonetheless enjoyable to look at

I was actually looking at the C70 before I got my CL. My mom has had two Volvo's and they were great cars so I checked it out. It was really nice inside, fit and feel I thought, but the performance wasn't there or at least not in my opinion. So the +10K price difference for the DolbyProLogic system wasn't quite enought to make me get it.

The one in 'The Saint' was burgundy but many of the advertisements around that time had the 'orangish' color.

I would be driving a C70 right now instead of the CL-S if the dealer had been will work a little but typical Volvo... However, that dash was hideous IMO. Too historic Volvo... I still get the IPD newsletter and if they ever get the PCM mod ready for the post '98 models I might be driving one.

But for now the CL-S is great car but I still miss that turbo feel.

i have a friend who designs cars and his professor designed the CL...

Hondas and Acuras are dictated by the Honda board in Japan to all look similar, it is something they are forced to do, their stylists have little choice or say in doing something different. For instance, it took like a 6 month decison and some serious
b$%^ng to get dual exhaust tips on the TL and CL.

C-70 is nice, ride is horrible though.

12 speakers, but who's counting??

after 6, i just say "a shitload of speakers"

BTW, i think the speakers that come with the Harmon Karden system in bimmers suk...they're like dime-sized speakers!! (not literally, obviously)...they're too damn small!! me wants big, hefty speakers!!

The ride is worse than the CL-S? I wasn't really going for a soft ried. I do like the Volvos. I'd rather get a non-turbo version with a bigger engine though.

I was looking at the C70 before the CL-S too. The thing is that the C70 is rock solid. Yes, it's slower, it's heavier and probably handles like crap...but hey, it's a Volvo. You get a 2-door tank with an awesome sound system.

It is actualy a couple hundred pounds less and performance is in line with the CL-S. In fact, it typically tests with a higher trap speed. However I do feel the CL-S is a better handler.

There are many very quick turbo-bricks out ther; surprising vehicles...

A friend of mine had a blue C70 vert. Nice car to drive and reasonably quick with the Low Pressure Turbo. The handling was a bit quirky with lots of body roll. The car felt real "narrow."

Unfortunately, he had to get rid of it because it started to fall apart after 3-4 months of ownership. After awhile the doors would no longer close because they were misaligned. The dealer tried to fix it but the body had twisted and they could only get them close. They were told there was nothing they could do. Several molding pieces literally fell off while driving down the road. The power antenna broke. The radiator overflow hose was severed several times by the fanbelt.

It turned out to be a real POS. He replaced it with an SC430 roadster.

Doesn't Ford own part of Volvo these days?
