would a broken motor or tranny mount cause heavy vibration upon hard acceleration?

it could . . . I'm actually dealing with a strange intermittent vibration under acceleration. It's weird as it doesn't do it all the time . . . the first time it happened I thought I had bent axles or something as I had a major dooh moment and hit a big ass speed bump . . . if I figure anything out I'll let you know.

^this is most likely your problem
My inner axle joint failed a little while back and it only had 5000 miles on it ,so it got replaced for free under warranty.
When I started having the problem it started mildly at 35mph and up.As the problem got worse it started at 20mph and started feeling like wheel hop.It took about 2 weeks to get badand once it was I did'nt even want to drive the car calling it a pos. Before this I replaced everything thing related to steering and suspension in the front to set up the car for reliability and to work out a shake when I bought the car. I could'nt beleive it.
But its a easyfix. Pull the inner axle joint cover to veiw inside on the vibrating side and you will probally see it's falling apart.
