Vibration question!

I just rotated my tires on saturday and today I was driving on the freeway and noticed vibration. All the lugs are on right, etc. I'm thinking it may be my rotors as I just had the tires balanced about 2 months back. However it doesn't shake when I'm braking, just when getting above 50 or 60.

I'm thinking the rotors are shot because the lugs weren't torqued down properly last time I had my wheels balanced.

I had the same problem, I thought the tires were out of balance. I took it to the dealer and after being up on the rack, they noticed that the inside of the wheel was slightly bent. You can't see it from the outside. I hit a pot hole a little while back and that was enough to do it. I don't notice anything until about 65-70 mph.

yea, I checked for bends when I rotated and didn't notice any Maybe one of the wheels is out of round. But I doubt it.

Why wouldn't you think it is a tire balance problem?

it could be, but as I said, I just had them done about two months ago. Also, this vibration wasn't there before the rotation. I don't see the wheels getting unbalanced from me taking them off and moving them to the front.

guys would it make sense for the rotors to be causing the vibration? Even though it doesn't happen when braking?

Definately not, especially since it doesn't happen during braking.

you may have a little flat spot in 1 of your wheels.

yea, I just replaced my axle, so I doubt it's the CV's. However maybe the other side has gone out

Many times I have rotated tires front to back & got vibrations at speed. After it being pefect before hand. 99.9% of the time it has been a balance issue.

usually the best balanced wheel/tires will be put on the front. the ones that are off a little bit get put on the back where you really can't feel the problem as much. that's one reason why people end up feeling a vibration after a rotation.

well then that fucks up the purpose of balancing them

Would it make sense for me to only balance the fronts, since I didn't have the vibration prior to the rotation?

I just went through the balance and re-balance turmoil and it ended up being slightly out of round rotors shaking the calipers above 60. Changed the rotors, perfect now.

yea, I stopped by a gas station to make sure my lugs were on tight, guy said it was the rotors. I don't know whether to believe him though.

Did it happen when you were breaking also? I'm thinking if it was the rotors it would of been there before.

some guy at a goodyear tire place wanted to charge me $20 for rotation. when i asked him why he said i needed 4, one for each tire -- all because i was wearing a suit and looked clueless.

$16 @ Costo (4 wheels). I balance there all the time (and rebalance for free whenever I feel vibration on the first month).
