Converting CL-P engine to CL-S

I don't know if this has been asked before, but I found nothing on it when my damn computer would allow me to search.

My question is, how different are the two engines. I know the CL-S engine has higher compression, but what are some other differences between the two. Is it possible just to replace some parts and turn my CL-P into a CL-S of sorts? Or would it be almost cheaper to find a messed up CL-S and swap in its engine?

It'd probably be cheaper to trade it in and get a used CLS.

This conversion is easier then converting an auto to a 6spd, but probably isn't cost effective (unless you just happen to have access to a free CLS engine).

I agree with the masses... it would be cheaper to just sell the CL-P and buy a Type-S.

The things I can think of off hand that you'll need are:

- New Intake system and throttle body (Type-S is dual stage)
- New ECU
- IRMC
- Figure out a way to disable VCS and install VSA (I'm sure it's not a simple ECU swap)
- Probably new engine internals due to the higher compression
- and so on

That's all I can really think of. You're probably looking at several thousand plus installing and tuning and in addition your car would not be street legal (since your VIN would indicate a different model). Plus, you should wait until your warranty expires since you'll be voiding it big time. FYI, from what I've seen thrown around here a new CL-S engine will run you about $6.5k, plus you'll need a new ECU and have to get them to work together in a CL-P.

Not worth it in my opinion. Just go the intake/headers/exhaust route and make what you have faster....

alot goes into a CLS from a CLP. compression is different .. pistons, rods, the heads, cams, valves, the whole intake manifold and setup (IMRC actuator), I'd assume the airbox assembly, springs and shocks, sway bars, computer\ecu, axles, guages, seats, etc etc etc ..... it'd probably be cheaper for you to sell the CLP and buy a CLS. or take advantage of the low compression on the CLP and turbo it or something.

Thanks, thats what I expected .

I'm not trading it in, because it's my first car and I still owe money on it which I don't have right now and with no job, it kinda sucks. I guess the conversion is out. I would have liked to to be able to use the supercharger. Plus starting out with 40 more horses before mods would help. If anyone knows where to get another setup (blower or super), especially for the CL-P that would be great.

The money I owe isn't much of an issue. I owe the money to my parents and they don't need it right away. Plus I almost have all of the money I owe them so I'm not worried to much about that.

But I would still need some more parts right? It seems thats most of the difference between the engines.

Also, I don't really care about the VSA, Seats, gauges and all that stuff. I just would like to build a hot car for the track. Plus, I like making things they weren't supposed to be in the first place.

Does the CL-P have the red letters on the engine?

the CL can definetly be a hot car, but not really for the track. it was never really designed to be that .. and it never really will be, ESPECIALLY not the 5AT. if you consider 14's hot, then yeah it'll do fine for you. but maybe if you really want a track car you should be in something different .. dsm, mustang, camaro\firebird, or if you want an import go with something light that you can turbo the crap out of .. civic hatch, integra gsr, etc.

I know I'll never be really fast at the track but that doesnt bother me because a 14.1 is decent for a hot looking luxury sport coupe that is a comfortable, daily driven car with a warranty

Coming from a Harley background, where everyone mods ....

I think you would be better to go 3.5 conversion....
