Very strange problem

I took off the plastic around where i put in my head unit to make an adjustment today and all the metal on the left side was completely rusted....i have no idea what this could be from. The right side only has a little bit of rust but the left is bad. what could this possibly be from? Is it possible the head unit is creating such a massive amount of heat that it is causing this? My brother thinks condensation is involved from the air condition or somthing. Its to dark out for me to take pics now but i will do it when i wake up tommorow. any input on what could be causing this?

True that. I took mine out a couple months ago and I thought it was weird too. It can't be too serious.

Most of the steel used inside the car is bare steel not galvanized so do not be surprised if you see corrosion on these surfaces .
