Valve Cover Gasket parts Help

Sup Guys

I'm getting ready to order the gasket(s) needed for valve cover gasket job. I've got some oil coming out of the ridght side and need to take care of it.

Other than the two Valve cover Gaskets (No. 4)

What else do I need?

I can't tell from the pic, but is No.5 Gaskets that go around each Spark Plug?

Also, should I replace the gasket around the Oil Filler (No.7) ?

I assume I need the Following

Qty | Part
2 - No. 4
6 - No. 5
1 - No. 7

Just get two #1s, PN 12030-P8A-A00. Each kit comes with the spark plug seals, valve cover seal, and the caps.

I can't find the price for the spark plug seals alone. They come with the valve cover itself or in the kit mentioned above.

The only I replaced when I got my valves done were 6 number 5s and I don't think I have any problems.
I was able to buy them seperately civic.

If I knew about the other gaskets, I probably would have at least gotten the number 4s. Oh well, next time.

You can save some money and just get #4 and #5. IIRC that will save you about 50%. Those caps are expensive and can be reused. Thats the only other thing the kit comes with.

Thanks for the tip but I rather be safe than sorry and just spend the extra $$ for the whole kit. It's Not that much money IMO.

I'm also gonna replace the spark plugs and o2 Sensor(s) at the same time while I have things going...

Im going to stick to stock NGK's which havent been changed since 75k miles. I curently have 170k miles on the CL.

Also, I still have both Stock o2 sensors on my car. Never been changed and i'm getting horrible mileage right now. Think its related.

Do you think I should get both 02 sensors? Front and Rear? Or just the front?

Also do I need to get the sensor from Acura? Or will I be safe going aftermarket and splicing the connector?

You can get an aftermarket sensor. Make sure its not a Bosch.

Also, make sure you gap the spark plugs - 1-1.1mm gap is whats specified for the Type S. You have a CL-P, right? Check the sticker under the hood. The measurement will be there.

Shouldn't they come pregapped? Especially if he got the OEM NGK lazer platnium/iridiums?

Good Question

These are the ones I have on order, should be here tomorrow
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000VY0K0

Also, do I need to remove the Intake Manifold in order to get to the front and rear valve covers? Or can I get away without removing the IM? I have the Helm's but it isn't too clear.

Also I cant find any instructions in my helms just for replacing the Valve Cover Gasket, they do have instructions on adjusting valves, so I am just looking at those steps to remove the valve cover.

Gotta remove it. My mechanic even went to as far as removing my strut bars to get more room cause he was adjusting the valves.

Crap. Do I need to get new IM gasket? or should I just re-use the original one? I didnt order any new gasket for the IM.

Also while the IM is off? Anything I should do with it? Clean it? If so, how?

You can, I did. But since you rather be safe then sorry....

You'll need 2 intake gaskets.

Whats the worst that will happen if I keep the re-use the original gaskets? Are they made of rubber? Paper? Easy to tear?

The IM gasket is metal. You can reuse it unless its in rough shape.

Gotcha thanks. Not being cheap since the IM gasket only costs like 15 bux, its just that I plan to knock this all out either tomorrow or Thursday and didn't order an IM gasket which would then delay me a bit if I ordered now.

Good news and bad news.

Good news is that upon closer inspection it looks like its not my valve cover gasket after all

Bad news is that I have a shit load of oil coming out of the side where #15 O-Ring and #6 From Cam Shaft Thrust Cover goes

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

How often does this o-ring wear out? Is it possible I can just tighten it up? Is this a generic o-ring? Or do I really need to go get this $.84 cent part at the dealer?

And I just picked up my two valve cover gasket kits from the dealer half hour ago lol. Might as well do the whole job while I have the parts anyway.

Ok so I got some tools out to tighten the cap up but everything is tight and now it doesnt even look like there is an oil leak from that side cap at all?!!?

There is oil caked up on the inside of the cap, but the outer edge of the cap (where the seam is) is clean.

All I can think of in that area is that the EQR valve is spitting out oil? Is that possible? From my spidey sense detective skills, It looks like the EGR is possibly spitting out oil towards the side of the head and dripping down.

I cleaned up all the oil and will monitor the area to see if I can figure it out.

Is this a known issue?

I'm searching the interwebz now.

EDIT: Now that I think of it, when I WOT my car, it has been making a sort of popping noise when switching gears at high revs. I chalked this up to a backfire because I am running a bit rich.

Could this pop be when the EGR spits oil out? Hmmm

Other than needing a tuneup and getting 17MPG, It is running great. I'm hoping the new plugs and O2 sensors will help with the MPG and running rich problem.

This is what is looked like before I cleaned it all up

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

I've put another 20-30 miles on the car since I cleaned it earlier and not a drop of oil anywhere. This is driving me nuts.

I'm going to purposely go WOT a few times tomorrow to see if it makes oil pop out from anywhere.

Just pull the EGR valve off (get a new gasket for it), and replace the O-ring on the cam cap. I doubt the oil is coming from the EGR valve itself. If you have the intake off, check your EGR port. If its clogged, clean it out. Theres a tutorial on the TL side IIRC.

Good tips thanks. I'll see if I can get to it after the rain stops sometime next week

I was just able to swap spark plugs, clean out the TB a bit with cleaner and replace both o2 Sensors today before the rains started. Car drives so much better. Now to see how good my MPG goes up.

Here are the old plugs after putting about 100k on them

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

They look ok no?
