Valentine V1
Ok, peoples, i know this have been the subject of many previous posts but after a search proved fruitless I suppose it is ok to post it again:
Comments, opinions, raves, reviews, whatever on the V1. I want to hear about it before i plunk down the cash. Anyone have another brand? what's your take on it?

Do a search on V1 or valentine and the user Ken steele. He had this and the Passport 8500 and gave a fair evaluation of it. Ken used to be a valentine "hater"
and not is converted. I own one - bought it in December and like it alot. It is big and clunky but I have become addicted to the arrow alert - I didn't think I would care, but I do.
Also, get the remote display for another $50 - rip off but oh well.
My view? I owned my remote whistler for 9 years so I think I will get my money out of it.

At first I was like "WTF, 400 bucks and hardly any radar or cops around" Then after the first time I almost got busted (cop was in a parking lot, never would have seen that!), and a few more times after that, I finally said "Damn this thing is awesome!". Hard wire it, it's a piece of cake thanks to the FAQ section here, did mine in about 15 minutes.

It was the best darn $435 (detector + remote) I've ever spent. The directional arrows are unbelievably useful: no more trying to figure out if the radar is getting stronger because he's gaining on you or in front of you.
If your local PD uses laser, it *may* not be as beneficial. But since my local PD uses radar, I can say it beats everything else in that department.
And, having some electrical engineering background (light and sound waves), I can say that I agree with Valentine's FAQ about having the detector high in the window versus down near the plate or bottom of the window.
I need to take pics of where mine is mounted. I like it a bit more than the mounting locations shown in the Garage here...

Wow -- Quite a thread...
I did actually have to talk to a V1 owner in person to have them admit that they had just been tagged (so much for the wobbling beam theory of lasers).
And, the remote setup does have its appeals.
BTW -- every "bullshit" ticket I've ever received (with the exception of my 1st 2 years of driving) have been from a result of "radar revenue enhancement." (6-lanes of ultra-safe under-posted road with no history of accidents!)

After living with the V-1 for 5 months I cannot imagine EVER using another brand again simply for the directional indicators and the V-1's ability to sniff out TRUE radar in our microwave crowded world. PERIOD.
Had a cop behind me (about 1/2 mile) going by a mall along the interstate and even with all the false signals, the V-1 alerted me to the "trouble" behind. Buy it and you won't be sorry,
