http://www.Valentineone.com is the only legitimate place to purchase new. I purchased and couldn't be happier. Best $450 I ever spent ($399, plus $39 for the remote display, plus shipping).

If you buy used, make sure you get the serial number BEFORE you buy and run it through the check on V1's website....it will tell you if it is a newer one with the latest firmware, or if it is older and out of date.

Personally, I felt more comfortable buying new through V1....that way, if there is a problem, I know 100% that it is covered under warranty.

after using my escort 8500 for 2 years and w/ no tickets, i'll be switching to a v1. why?? because I took a trip w/ adam from albany to montreal about 3 hour drive and saw too many radar hits from the rear. the number of bogey ; escort 8500 has it too but the directional arrow was just pimp. normally in my escort 8500 I would slow down no matter what but after seeing the v1 with the radar im switching..

Wow! never thought it would happen!

V1 saved my ass a bunch of times this past week while driving back from the san jose area! Biggest one was when a group that I was in was doing about 90+ going up on a mountain road. Got hit hard with a Ka band and started to slow down...turned the corner and there he was sitting on the shoulder out of sight, a white camaro unit. Everyone slowed down with me and no one got a ticket. Got a lotta from the other drivers.

Occasionally I'll see NYPD on the Cross Island doing radar, and once in a blue moon on the LIE in that area but never on the GCP thats usually my safe haven to drive like an asshole
Has this been often or just once?

Ive seen the cop w/the radar gun in the St. John's University area of the GCP on few occasions over the years...but remeber the city ios pisspoor broke now they need the money anyway they can get it. He was set up right at the base of a downhill slope where everyone naturally speeds up... just west of the Union Tpke exit i beleieve. Not fair IMHO.

Im not saying the performance of teh escort 8500 suck because when I compared it a long time ago w/ a v1 and also a bel 9xx series the escort and v1 was only like 1 or 1 1/2 second difference, each picked up radar before other so performance wise I m very satisfied by it but yes the arrows did it for me. The escort is on sale in black market. if no one picks it up it'll go on ebay...

I've got a question about the V1/laser detectors in general...I've heard people say that a laser detector isn't going to alert you until the cop actually points the laser at your car...at this point isn't it too late? If this is a myth please explain it to me...thanks.

Lidar (nothing more than concentrated light) is what is used in police radar.

Light speads out, especially after it hits somthing reflective. If you're the first car and you get tagged with laser, pull over. 99 out of 100 times, you're screwed.

But if another car gets hit, some of the lidar beam will not return back to the source and will be spead out. If you're lucky, you'll pick up a snip of the lidar and the V1 will howl.

Unfortunately, since Lidar is so concentrated, it's difficult to pick up versus a conventional radar gun. Lidar is evil.

I have solid proof this is a myth under real world circumstances. Do a quick search....
