V 1 effectiveness

Hey guys I am seriously considering buying a V1, But I have some questions. First I own a cobra, and have owned a bell, every radar dector I have used or seen fails to adquitly warn the driver. Has anyone here been caught with thier pants down using a V1? Last please tell me what types of custom installs you guys have done with the V1 on the Cls. Thanks.

I got caught with my V1 on, but mine was messed up, so I returned it. That reminds me I need to call them about that. Anyways...I was going over a overpass and the cop was coming from the other side heading my direction. I was the first car over and he caught me when I went over.
You can hardwire the V1 like I did and it is in FAQ forum. It is really easy just follow the directions.

  • AEM CAI/Denso Iridium Spark

On its way: Comptech Sway Bar/Brake Line/WS Apexi Coilover/AEM Pulley

It warns you plenty, here in NJ hiding State Troopers lurk everywhere. I have been saved at least 4-5 times in the 3 months I have had it.

Is the cheapest place to buy it directly from valentine1.com? or does anyone know a cheaper retailer?

You could try E-Bay but I wouldn't. They only sell direct.

If you think a radar detector is going to keep you from getting tickets, you're in for a rude awakening.

I love my V-1 and wouldn't replace it with any other model on the market, but to say I haven't been caught with my pants down would be a lie. With lasers in use and instant-on radar, your detector is at best a 'tool' and not a cure all. My $.02

The best feature of the V-1 is the directional display... can't live without it.

If you do a search on the topic and you see my name attached to a post saying ugly things about the V1, that was my evil twin badmouthing what is clearly the most revolutionary radar detector of the 20th century.

The biggest problem with V1's range is that it gives you TOO MUCH warning.

You can sit there with it beeping for 5 minutes until you see the cop... so if your not paying attention your gonna disregard it and start to speed again and get nabbed by being stupid.

But. Thats a good trait if u ask me.

Ditto.
You are never 100% immune. The V1 does give you the best possible chance. It has saved my ass many times.
Another plus is the hardwire ability. I bought a fitting that goes over the prong of a fuse. Plugged it in and hid the wire around the windshield. It uses a standard phone cord. So if the one they supply isn't long enough you can just go buy a longer one.
Highly recommended.

Love V1. Was caught twice though:
1) Instant On radar in early morning darkness.
2) Being paced in early morning darkness.

I've given up on my V1, never seems to do any good--mostly due to the hills around here though. Cops are sneaky and know how to use the landscape. By the time the V1 sounds and you come around or go over a hill they've already clocked you (laser mostly).
If they ever develop a system that can see around corners or over hills I'll reconsider, but for now I just try to keep it 5 miles over and on cruise control.

I just drove thru Austin from SATx to KCMO on I35 when the Texas 7 was on the loose and there were cops everywhere. My ancient V1 killed them all; that was the clincher that convince me to purchase the new and improved model. I've seen just about each and every speedtrap scenario; DSP is not doing anything different than any other state troopers.

V1 can definitely see around corners and over hills (the V1 will beep when there is no visible sign of a cop). Save for the rare cases mentioned above (about being the first one during instant on or most laser situations), V1 is clearly superior to any police radar situation. If anything, they are lucky to catch you, rather than you are unluckly getting caught.

For the record, I've defeated several laser situations using V1. Haven't been to Hawaii, the king of laser traps, but there aren't a lot of other departments that I'm aware of who rely and train so heavily on laser. My 2 cents.

I was just looking on V1's website, and they have quite a few interesting articles about radar detection... the second report here talks about how windshields cut laser detection down significantly and mounting your detector at the top of the window behind the blue tint strip may or may not have an effect, depending on the type of car you have. Looks like it didn't make that big of difference on the Accord, which as close to our cl's they have listed...
