using ss

wassup guys i'm new to the forum...sorry if this questions been asked before but:

i just got my cl-s...auto with ss...i've been reading that without using the ss correctly and just flooring it will just give you 15s all day long...so my question is...what's the best way to use ss? i noticed that in ss mode it automatically shifts to second on its own...any suggestions? thanks

i floor it, it will redline 1st gear then automatically change into 2nd. then just shift it like it were standard, near, at, or above redline depending on the amount of stress you want to put on your engine.

i think using the ss mode will not give you any better times, but going through the gates should.

You shold torque brake by holding the brake down all the way and pressing down on the gas untill the rpm cant go any higher. Then to gate shift, you put it in first and go through the gears manually shifting right before redline. Like 1>2>3 and so on.

If you don't torque break, and I will explain in a second, there will be a little delay if you are sitting at a dead stop if you nail it. What I have found on my 03' TL-S, is that the best launches I have done have been from gate shifting and only torque breaking it to about 1000 rpm, to just keep the engine on its toes. Torque breaking your automatic a lot will put a lot of stress on the tranny, and with the automatic tranny situation as it is I wouldn't test it often. I definetly would not torque break it till the rpm's stop going up, but that is just me.
