upgrade from Auto CL to TL-6 or CL-6 ???

Ok, well, I def want to keep my Acura, for LIFE, but I am weary bout the Auto Tranny. I was thinking of upgrading to a 6 speed, but was really stuck between the CL-S 6 speed and the TL 6 Speed. Color is not really a factor, altho, im always wanted a red car, and it has to have Navi. So what do you guys think? This is just me thinking out load, I don't think i would do it right away, but eventually. Either way, I would be using the car in shows, with the new Kit and Multi-Piece forged wheels we are comign out with.

decide what you'd rather work on for the shows... a bigger 4 door that you can do both performance and a bit of floss (screens in headrests, etc. ; dvd ; more interior mods and room to work with)... or a sporty coupe build more on performance with the occasional bling. hmmmm..... got enough for both?

actually I say stick with the true coupe, something unique. Everyone has the new TL's. Low mileage 6 speed CL, teh hotness (especially if you wanted to bring it to shows)

personally i would stay with the cl-s 6 cause it is a coupe and thats my personal bias, but the kit you have for the tl-6 is hott, perfect for a show car

I hate to say it, but from an investment point of view, i'd get a 04/05 TL 6, With CL's as much as i like the car, short term they will be around but what about long term, not alot of people will want to invest parts, kits etc into a car that has a warranty of 100K for the tranny.

As for the CLS 6 speeds, is there enough of them out there to justify the investment to get a return.

With the New TL, Seems like is does not have the tranny problem, New model and probably be around for another 3-5years before a Newer design comes out, and you will still have buyers as the value will have dropped hence more affordable for younger people. So you should be able to a nice return on investment over the next few years.

You also have the TSX that seems to be popular, another area you can look into.

I love the CLS in the short time i have had it, but as soon as i find the right car with a trade in deal i can live with i'm out....... Mostly b/c of the tranny issue and i drive alot of miles.

The TL is too hot. I still look at stock 04 TLs twice. I saw one dropped maybe 1.25" all around. Looked. Fucking. Sick.

Do it

I agree...as much as I love the CL, I probably would have passed on it had I known about all the tranny issues and how unpopular this car is when it comes time to sell...I probably would have went with the TSX (I got the car the same exact day the TSX was released!)

However, driving them back to back---the CL-S powerplant sold me over the TSX's badass interior.

I think the CL 6 speed is much sexier than the new TL, especially with your new CL bodykit.

I own a CL-6spd and would probably agree with the others that buying a TL-6 might be the wiser thing to do from a financial standpoint.

Cars are bad investments anyways, so buy what you like. I've always wanted a red sportscar with a tan interior, so I bought a SMR w/ parchment CLS 6spd.

CLS 6spds can be had in the low 20's with some examples dipping down to the high teens (18-19K). Here's one in the Bronx - it's red too

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ghlight=marino

My CL might be my first and last new car. Next time around, I'll probably let someone else take the depreication hit (like I did on my last car). A used CL or TL 6spd might be the wisest move...

I say go with the TL. Don't get me wrong, I love my CL, and don't plan on getting rid of it, but if I'm going to upgrade I would get the TL.

well, thanks for the feedback, but at this point I was just wondering about keeping my CL, 2001 auto.
Seems like the CL-6 would be able to take my Mods right over, the new Kit, the wheels, the TEIN SS and Rotora BBK. It HAS to have Navi, and a MT, any color really. It's also more of a deal with the markdown.

The TL would be good for another 3 years on the freshness end of it, and it does look sweeter when hooked up. The Navi is way better, but I don't know about the power Comparrison to the CL. Thats another thing, the Power will make me stick with these two, and not a TSX.

I would just keep the Cl. You've done alot to it and you will drive yourself crasy worrying about the tranny. I think about mine crappin out too. If you really fell that you want to get another acura the TL is IMO your best bet. Just remember that there is no such thing as a return on any car, unless its a classic. They're just money pits. You will never ever get back what you put into it. Anything you do to mod it a car is out of pocket and will not effect the value at trade in. In some cases it will lower it.

Dont ever listen to anybody that calls a car an asset. Its the worst investment you could ever make. A car is a liability. You will never get ROI on an automobile unless you bought a 69 camaro in 69. Even with the TL's great resale value you will not make money with the car unless you deliver pizza's with it. Just drive the CL till you hit 100k then get rid of it.....E

Good point. You can just save the cash and put it into a new TL in about 2 years. And keep the CL. Have them both. By then the CL won't really be worth a lot and you can have a fully moded CL and a new toy to build up.

For advertising purposes i would go with the new TL, because it's a newer car that more people want mods for. The Cl is still hot and if you want to stay with the CL, the 6 Speed is ideal. But, they dont come without their fair share of minor problems. Do a search to see some minor things people are experiencing. Also, if you don't know how to drive stick, i wouldnt try and learn on the CL. We both know one person who is experienced and still missed a shift and killed his CL motor. Also you will be able to use most of your mods, except for the key power adder, the headers. The headers you have wont fit the 6 speed. You will have to get Comptechs, so add another grand to your total vehicle purchase. The CL is still fresh enough to use as an advertising tool.

Rondy, get the 6, but your car is fine the way it is, look at me from a 02 CL-S to an 05 RSX-S, I wasnt happy, so I ended up with the 03 CL-S6, bro I made that mistake of giving up the CL, I missed it alot and wasnt happy at all!! Do what you want and be happy!!

Save yourself the money of upgrading to a newer car, especially if you are just going to buy a newer CL. Spend the $3500 for a built transmission and your worries will be over. That's less than what you'd loose on buying a newer, USED CL-6

3k over 2 years is nothing!

How about I paid 17k for my CL-P last January and the most I was offered on trade-in was $10,500. Priavte party sale just as bad.

Not the point I was making.

I wouldn't get much more than $12k for my CL-S on trade in either.

What about that Dr.Evil Tranny upgrade, and I'm not talking about chicks with dicks, lol.
Seriously tho, I want to address the tranny and the sound insulation, ie rattles and squeaks. If I do that, i'll be golden, no worries, and still save alot instead of just going to a CL6

Contact Speed Distributors, they already know the parts needed to upgrade the transmission. OR... contact Dr. Evil and get them to get off their asses and start making a 5AT for us.

The doctor evil thing sounds good. But wait and see how reliable it is. A lot of old school guys remember Level 10 and there work. Some people swore by them, while others had trannies fail and warranties be worthless. Just know that if that Dr Evil tranny goes, you will not be covered by the stealer.

dont upgrade your tranny until it blows. before it goes south, you should have no worries.
correct me if im wrong, but you can do the dr. evil after the tranny fails. so if you are over 100k and have no warranty left, getting it beefed up would be better than buying a new one from acura.
finally, from a business perspective, you should consider moving to a TL6. The TL, as acura has demonstrated in the past, is more mainstream and has much more sales than the CL ever did. Getting a new tl and turning that into a product showcase is probably your best bet, not to mention its a nice car in the first place.

the only time you should consider a cls6 is when you plan on doing doing alot of performance mods. if i was to switch to a cls6, it would only be for the performance capabilities.

I think his first tranny already failed. He's trying to avoid the hassle of dealing with it.
