Update on Rear Brake Noise! Venting...sorry!
Some of y'all tried to help me with my question about my rear brakes being wrecked this past weekend. Thanks for the suggestions, but I decided to go with the stock brakes because I needed to get it done quickly.
Anyway, the tech and advisor told me the whirring noise I was hearing was from the rear discs and pads being to almost bare metal, and that the rust ridges were a problem. So, I picked the car up Saturday afternoon. I started to hear the noise again, but thought I was imagining things. Well, I wasn't imagining yesterday when I heard it in the morning and afternoon. I went to the dealer after work and explained that I was not happy about forkin' out that much money for the brakes and still hearing the noise. I was also there because I had a tire replaced and I was very specific about the placement of that tire. Ya think they would get that right. Of course not. I told the advisor I couldn't leave it overnight because it was going to the body shop today, and that I wanted a tech to go for a ride with me to hear the noise. He agreed that there was a noise, but that he thought it must have been caused by the brakes because they were in such bad shape. BTW, no mention of brakes was made at the 45,000 service (not even that they were in good or ok shape
). He looked at it quickly while he was putting the tires in the correct locations, and supposedly adjusted the heat shields slightly.
The noise is gone, but WTF is up with this service group. I used to be sooo pleased with them, until the service manager was promoted to general manager, and the owner's brother was brought into the service area. It may be a total coincidence, but I doubt it. I think I'm gonna follow Nashua's advice and check out the factory-trained cats in my area. If I'm gonna get porked, I'd like to spend less money in the process. They used to lube me up a little before bendin' me over, but not anymore
.
The bottom line is, I guess, that I probably needed to replace the brakes, anyway, given they had 61,000 miles on them. But, I'm pissed that they didn't check them a little earlier, as I had asked in a previous service, and that they seem to be whiffing at the little things these days.
Sorry I sound like a little bitch, but I'm not pleased right now, and I needed to vent. Thanks, y'all.
