Update on new MDX

A couple of weeks ago I traded in my CLS and picked up an MDX....sold my aftermarket parts and took off on my vacation...drove to grand canyon, las vegas, and final destination was san francisco....did another 700 miles worth of driving in san fran, running around to wine-country, santa cruz, etc.....On the way back I drove straight from san fran back to houston....Put about 5200 miles on my MDX during my road trip...There was 4 people in the car and about 600# worth of luggage,etc...All I can say is that the MDX is AWESOME!!!...Glad I went w/ this SUV rather than any of the others I was looking at...driving through AZ and NM I kept an avg. speed of 85-95 mph and the car was not running more than about 2500 rpm....runs smooth, comfortable, good gas mileage, very well built.... Glad I went w/ this vehicle rather than the others I was looking at....Miss my CLS but I think I'll be happy w/ my new purchase...Next coupe will most likely be the M3 or the rumored 2004 Supra...

I kept all my receipts that I paid for fuel and from my records I bought about 278 gallons worth of fuel....thats comes out to about 18.7 mpg...which I consider great because on the freeway I was driving pretty fast and when I was in san fran for 5 days we did all inner city driving plus all those dang mountains I had to drive up carrying all that weight....No way I could have done that if I would have bought the land rover, sequoia, or denali

Quit bein a retard, grow UP and stop buying into the "IMAGE" thing.

He bought the mdx cos it offers the best ride, utility and with sitting for up to 8 on this side of the monster SUVs. If that is what fits his lifestyle best then who gives an ant's ass if its a "mom's car"

Jeez... some ppl and their oh-so-important-image factor

Hahah lets hope he was...

But it can sit eight: 2 up front, 3 in the middle and 3 kids in the back (3 kids cos, of course, its a MOMMIE car)

Nice review, we just got ours, but haven't hit the road with it yet. It's good to know that it does everything well. Any advice on what you've learned after driving it for awhile would be appreciated, you can PM me. Thanks.

I agree! I plan on getting a MDX when my dealer quits being an asshole and cuts me a great deal. I want one for less than $35K, so now I am considering a fully loaded Honda Pilot for less money, but the damn leather seats in the MDX makes it more attractive, not to mention the better body panels. The pilot looks like a runaway minivan, but for the price, I'll fake being a "soccer dad" for a few years!

The only problem with the Pilot is some dealers are adding so much markup, that you can get an MDX for close to the same price.

One of the main reasons I got this was because I do like to take road trips and need alot of room but didnt want a gas guzzling V8.....Also, My job requires me to take out clients to lunch or just a night out and this offered plenty of room for that....Dont get me wrong, I still want a coupe but at this time there isnt a coupe that I want right now besides the M3....So, Im just gonna wait for that rumored 04 Supra or will get into an M3 once they fix that engine problem they are having right now...Then, we'll see who's in the momma's car but as for now I have an all around vehicle w/ a smooth ride, no rattles, and believe it or not I get alot of looks w/ the black on black leather.....

my wife has had her mdx since january 2001. she loves it. huge step up from her nissan pathfinder she had before.

the mdx is really the best suv available. my wife did one of those marketing surveys where she sat in and evaluated several suv cars, got paid for it, and leared that her mdx was far better than the competition!

but what's up with that lame baby blue color on the 2002 mdx? yuck!

My girlfriend has had her '02 MDX for about 2 months now, and we both love it. Damn nicest SUV this side of 60k available.

Go to the http://www.acuramdx.org forums to check out some sweet mods people are doing to their MDXs. It looks even tighter with 20" dubs.

How's the head/leg room in the MDX compared to the CL-S?

The proportions in the MDX are quite a bit different than the CLS. There is tons of Headroom for me. You are situated more vertically than horizontally. In other words, your butt is a greater distance from the pedals on the vertical axis, whereas in the CLS you are further from the pedals on the horizontal axis.

The leg room is OK, but I feel as if I have to keep my leg bent at a very specific angle in order to operate the pedals. That is only an issue for very long trips though (3 hours +) and it may just be that I need to take more breaks to stretch. For daily driving, it is extremely comfortable. And I love how easy to get in and out of it is compared to the CLS. But the CLS is totally worth the more difficult entry and exit because of that kick in the ass you get off the line that, of course, just isn't there with the MDX.

Ash, you know i'm 6 foot 2 and the CL-S is fine on headroom, but it took a little work with the seating position. The MDX has tons of headroom. It's a great all around ride
