Unclear About Result of Changing Sways...

I know we've talked about this from time to time, but I'm unclear about one question. First, I know a result of the change is better cornering. My question is...does it make the ride harsher? For instance, will hitting a pothole leave my teeth chattering and my kidneys malfuctioning like it did in the 1985 IROC Z I had years ago? If you made the change, I sure would value your opinion. Thanks for taking the time.

That's what I was hoping you would say.

Just make sure it's installed correcty and do use the teflon tape ( a lot of it ) so you do not have squeaks.

Had my springs and sways done last week...no squeaks (so far) and the ride is so much tighter. I feel like I have a lot more control. Worth the $$$. The ride is a bit more jarring in my opinion but I am guessing that the springs are just as responsible. I can't tell since they were both done at the same time!!

They're meant to stiffen body roll. But, you do get a little bit of a side effect (the stiffer the bars, the more they'll try to stop the independent suspension from working). So, you get a little rougher (I mean little) ride, but the real side effect is going over bumps can cause the front or back to skip a bit (the the solid axle in the Iroc Z). Not as bad as the solid axle, but still there.

Sooo.... do it! You'll never regret it!

i think my position is a bit different from everyone else's in here and i hope it helps you in your decision. i've had them for almost a year and a half now and have found them to be more annoying than enjoying. yes, they do make my car feel a bit sportier, and yes, the car feels almost as if it was stock, but what everyone failed to mention is that with the purchase of these sways will come unwarranted, unscheduled maintenance. of course the maintenance is entirely up to you, but surely, you dont want your car to squeek whenever you enter a driveway or run over a speed bump now do you?

...oh, the noise can be heard quite clearly even with the windows rolled up. although it's not always a bad thing, esp. if there are females around cause it sure grabs their attention.

...yeah baby, i know you remember me cause i sure remember you.

Can you be more specific about the noise and how do we maintain it to keep it quiet. ........and thanks, this is important!

if u do sways first you wont feel any loss in ride quality but when you add springs and shocks the car will definetely have a loss of ride quality.

i installed sways on a stock cl-s and felt no ride discomfort and when i got my springs installed there was a noticable change in ride quality but when i added the sways you can definetely feel more of the road!

but after a while you get use to it and it becomes well worth the money

i get squeals when i back out of my driveway too...right when you turn the wheel to put your rear end into the street and the car tries to flex because one rear tire is still in the driveway and the other rear tire is lower on the street level.

i'll have it checked out next time i'm at PAA.

You just need to keep the bushings lubed. If you know a good mechanic at a dealership they might be able to get some pretty good jelly. My buddy is a GM mech. he put some special lube they use at his dealership I have had no problems for 2yrs now.
Him and I actually talked about this same issue when we were putting the sways on. Another option is to drill a small hole and put a zurk (sp) fitting. Lube it with a gun anytime you need.

Almost forgot..
You really won't even notice the sways are on until you take a turn. CL suspension is far more advanced than the Camaro you speak of so it is not rough at all. Try it out. The sways are easy to put on yourself. If you don't like them they should be very easy to sell. What do you have to lose? The shipping cost?

I believe that I recall from reading the install instructions from the sways (it was left in the car after I had them done) that they came with lube for the bushings. The people that have squeaks....did they use the lube? Were the squeaks something that happened after a lot of miles? I can imagine that they will need to re-lubed at some point but why wouldn't Acura service do it like they would the stock sways? They never impressed me as the type of group that would ignore lubing something like sways just because it wasn't totally stock. Or at least they would ask if you wanted it lubed...

The stock bushings are rubber. Really don't need to lube them just replace them every couple years. The Comptech bushings are polly. So instead of wearing away like rubber they squeak.
Re-lubing them couldn't take more than 10 minutes. Mounts are super easy to get to.

Pappy,
I'm headed for 43 years of age and I WAS CONCERNED TOO, just as you ! I DON'T REGRET GETTING THEM ONE BIT ! I do recomend new rubber with the sways. It was GOD awful with OEM rubber. I THINK THE CAR SHOULD HAVE COME WITH THESE SWAYS AND BETTER TIRES !

DO IT, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED ! In fact, ride in a members car in your area with them if your concerned......

Hope this helps !

P. S I still say it's the BEST mod for the car !

How hard is it to lube them? Do they have to remove/reinstall each time?

With all due respect to everyone who says NO degredation in ride, there will be a little side to side effect as someone here said. Remember that you are reducing the benefits of independent suspension with anti-roll bars. So the stiffer they are, the more it becomes like having a solid axle (to exaggerate).

What you'll really feel is that when one wheel drops into a hole, the car will be more likely to dive in on that corner as opposed to the wheel falling in and back up while the car stays level. Your head will rock side to side of one side encounters bumps while the other side is on smooth pavement. When you go up a driveway at an angle with any speed, your head will rock side to side more than before. But overall, on and offramps will feel much more stable than before. Over bumps that both left and right wheels encounter at the same time, no difference.

Enjoy!

I installed my CT sways about 35,000 miles ago and they are squeaking now. Yes, I used the lube. Time to re-lube. I figure it's a small price to pay for the terrific handling characteristics. I did NOT notice any degradation in the normal ride after the install. Point of reference, my previous cars were a BMW 540 and Infiniti Q45 so I am quite sensitive to changes in ride quality. I didn't feel any other than being able to handle twisties mo better.

if your someone like me who would rather pay someone else to do it then 15 minutes sounds a bit sweetened. add another 15 minutes for the trip back and another 4 hours for acura to get your vehicle in and out of their garage. maybe acura of marin does hate me...

If they are properly greased during installation, they won't squeak or creak. I have 10k miles on my Comptech bars, and no noise at all. 30k on my Hellwig bars on my truck and no noise either.

If you fail to grease them, then you get issues because the urethane will grab the bar instead of sliding on it. Then it creaks as it tries to turn.
