Unbelievable remote range !!!!

I was in Pittsburgh on business again yesterday and today.
It was a nice little 750 Mile 2-Day road trip.

Last night, the Red Rocket was parked as safely as possible about (20) spaces away from the hotel lobby under a parking lot light.
From my 8th floor room window I was able to barely see my car.

Just for the HELL of it, I held my remote up to the window and pressed the LOCK button.
Sure enough, I see the lights flash confirming the command.

I’m thinking to myself…HOLY SHIT…That’s about 200FT away if you figure about 160FT out and about 80FT up.

For the record, this is the “new” 2002 TL remote.
I’m not sure if that one is better then the ones that came with our cars originally.

Has anyone else experienced this kind of performance?

Shawn S

Here is a photo I snapped from the 8th floor room so you can get a feel for the distance.

Wow, that's really some distance! I'd be surprised if the standard CL remote worked that far away, but I've never tried it that far either.

I once heard that if you hold the remote up to your chin and extend the other arm upwards as you click it, that it extends the range capability. The guy who told me this worked at a stereo shop and it does seem to help a bit but I really have no idea if there's a scientific basis for this. Anybody else heard of this?

Sure he wasn't just trying to make you look like an ass in public the next time you walked up to your car?

The fact that you're doing it from inside the hotel room has something to do with it. I've found this happens with lots of remotes when I'm "far away" inside a building but then when I walk outside to my car the range is gone until I get close to the car again.

I've goten some crazy range when I first bought my car...I suspect it has to do with the battery strength...it's good now, but not as strong as the first few initial months.

Yeah Tinman, I've done the chin thing from about 25yrds with a regular cl-s remote. And about 40yrds from the second floor of my building.

Must be all the lead I ate when I was a kid

Hold the remote up to your chin, and it will improve the distane by alot. Shawn I once got like no joke 200+ yards, I was at school and after parking right before I got in to the building I press the button and it worked. THen after class I did it again and worked again. I then counted my foot steps and sure enough it was 200+

lol!! That's exactly what I thought! I did know this guy and he swore it worked (and it seemed to) but I always was a little suspicious. As the others mentioned here, I guess it does help without even needing to raise the arm though.

:p That's what some of us had to do with our Chrysler 300M's before Chrysler came out with a TSB on the "lack of range" for our key FOB's! It did work, but we didn't have to raise our arm.
