Unable to pump gas

in my 98 Nissan Altima. The gas pump keeps shutting off before any gas gets in. Anyone have any ideas to what I should be checking first? Thanx in advance

It's either 1 of 2 things:

1. Vapor lock (super rare occurrence).

2. Bad pump. Just drive up to the next one and pump again.

Did you try backing the nozzle out some then try again. I get this sometimes If I stick the nozzle all the way in my CLS, it will keep clicking off before the tank is full.

Tried all kinds od ways to fill up the tank, basically right now to get a full tank of gas, I need to press the lever in very slightly, and it still clicks off on me every 5 seconds.

This happens on all pumps, at different stations, and its just been getting worse. The car itself drives fine, with no symptoms other than having a real tough time of gasing it up.

I know that in order for the gas to pump in, the air thats now in the tank needs to be displaced, and vented outside. I wonder if that venting mechanism is either jammed, or physically blocked, but Im not sure where I should be looking for it.

shit...I forgot the name of the valve that is busted...basically there is a valve that is controlled by vacuum and is connected to your fuel feeder neck and thats what shuts down the pump when your tank is full....it's busted or stuck and it thinks your gas tank is full...thats why everytime you put gas in it it's like topping it off. Call up Nissan and they'll be able to tell you the exact name of the failing part.

sometimes what youve gotta do is turn the gas pistol

upside down and do it that way. i pumped gas at an exxon for

a while and that happend to a lot of trucks

also try not putting it a deep , you know

not a rim job, but put it in a little more than halfway but not all the

way

o yea also try using a empty poland spring rather than the clip,

this works because sometimes the gas is shooting out way too

fast
