I agree Nashua, if your not a hardcore rap or techno fan.. the system is just fine IMO.

When you crank it up LOUD...it's not clear...i beg to differ. But there is one good thing about the stock Bose system, you can turn it to max and it won't blow your system...more or less.

before i had my Basslink, i kept the BASS and TREBLE at 100% all the time, and certain bass sounds would cause the speakers to crackle, but overall, it sounded decent....it wasnt until i got the basslink that it finally sounds respectable....now i have the treble at 100% and the Bass at 50% on the head unit and the basslink almost all the way up and it sounds damn nice....

Glad you're happy with it. Some advice? Don't ever listen to a friends high-end custom system (high-end meaning accurate, NOT loud and boomy, of course!), or your opinion of our stock system will be tarnished forever! I don't listen to (much) rap or techno, and the sound quality definitely bothers me, but I wouldn't have expected much more from a stock system.

the Basslink is a product made by Infinity..its a self contained/self powered 10" kappa subwoofer...its small, and light, and works WELL with our factory system...very easy to install, and it takes up hardly any room in the trunk....it gives the MUCH needed bass our cars need. they run on ebay for around 200 bucks...a new one from a reputable online dealer is about 225-250...at circuit city they are like 400-450

It does sound good. Sounds even better if you take the time and reverse the polarity on the rear speakers. Since they come out of phase from the front speakers. Cancels out the BASS pretty good.

Sounds much better if you do that simple mod If you have a good ear you can slowly move your head towards the rear of the CLS from the front and hear the front/rear speakers battling each other. There's a good point where you can hear the shift.

Just find the wires in the trunk and cut and switch them. Pretty easy to see comming from the speaker.

+ to -
and
- to +

You will hear some more bottom end then (bass).

drop a Eclipse system in that beast and you'll be rolling hard.
I'll admit Eclipse is expensive but it's a 3 warrenty on the headunit and 1 year on speakers. and the best feature is you don't have to carry/hide the faceplate anywhere cause if they steal my headunit it's useless (because they need a key CD) and it's in the house so it's one less thing i gotta lug around or worry about (that's the main reason i roll with Eclipse )

Does the polarity thing work in all setups? Or does it depend where you taped the signal. Mine is line level. I taped into the input from the head unit.

I haven't put a scope on the head unit to see if it it out of phase from the HU at line level. One of these days I'll bring home a digital sampling scope and give it a try.

Buddy sells for Lexus ... Mark Levinson apparently is the way to go for stock sound. Too bad I think it's part of an $11K option on the LS.

You have to cut the wires to switch them. The connector going into the speaker(s) cannot be reversed. I found it just as easy to cut them and re-crimp the wires together.

However someone may find a better way to do it

I guess I misunderstood what you meant exactly.

How does this "basslink" actually work? Any chance of blowing out any of the speakers? What about the tweeters on the door pillars?
