Very sad to hear

These people need to stop racing at those speeds on local streets.

The freeways are somewhat understandable, but not local streets

"Investigators say the impact was so powerful that both cars wound up 200 yards from where they collided."

200 yards thats two football fields? Wow that is crazy, sounds somewhat exagerated however.

I may get flamed for this one but here goes.

I feel no sympathy for anyone who dies while *racing* whether it's on the streets or on the freeways. It's illegal, and although it may be fun to do it's very dangerous. I feel much more empathy for the Volvo that got broadsided by this idiot. No I don't think both drivers expected to have anyone die becuase of their actions, but frankly when u get into this situation and this "scene", there are consequences that you must relaize and have to accept. This is a bad case of I told you so, but I told you so. These "racers" need to evaulate whats more important, a 30 second thrill or 50 years of livelihood. Sorry if I offend anyone, but this is my opinion and I'm tired of hearing about this.

John Q, couldn't agree more.

Even when you are speeding on the freeway you have to be aware other drivers assume you are at the flow of traffic not 20 over. It is your responsibility to pass safely when you have created a large speed differential. Chances are that old lady in the Volvo assumed those two idiots were doing 35mph.

The worst part about drag racing vs. road racing (the curvy part of Sears Point) is it doesn't actually make you a better driver. It only teaches slamming down the right foot and getting a good "launch".

I dont think anyone has any sympathy for people who drag race on open streets. It's stupid and not many people will disagree.

I feel bad for BOTH people who died... damn shame.

But this race is quite different than someone racing in an empty parking lot or something and getting caught by a cop. I have sympathy for someone that is being safe compared to some dumbass who is risking lives.
