Question Turn click click

Hey everyone!

I have a starter issue. I just replaced the battery and now the starter is giving me fits. I turn the key, hear the solenoid release but nothing. No cranking, no nothing. I've managed to get it started after tapping on it with the battery end of a maglite in an attempt to break loose whatever is going on in there and last night, I turned the key a bunch of times in a row and that managed to start the car.

It's almost like the battery doesn't have the cranking amps to turn the starter or the brushes in the starter aren't getting a good contact. I remember in my autoshop days that you used to be able to take the alternators and starters apart and rebuild them by installing new "brushes." You probably can't do that now, but I'd thought I'd ask if anyone had.

Like I said, its either the starter going bad or the battery not being able to turn the starter. Anything I missed?

If you banged your starter & it started then there's your problem.
