what is a turbonator (i know noob question)? is it like one of the many things they sell on ebay that claim to increase your horsepower by x amount.?

Similar to that Z-Max shit they say you should pour into your gas tank and in other parts of your car. None of those things do anything other than drain your wallet of whatever money you spend on them.
