Question Trying to Decide Between a Comptech S/C & Selling the CL-6!

I really can't decide what makes the most sense. My CL-6 is almost paid off and I'm really thinking about either selling the car for an '06 IS350 which I've wanted since the day they came out - but then part of me doesn't want another car payment. I feel like the IS350 is more practical being a 4-door and I'll be turning 28 soon and even though I'm single it does come in more handy.

The blown CL-6 with the HBP or even stock boost I'm sure would out perform an IS350 but at the same time the RWD platform of the IS350 is obviously like night and day for handling, launching, etc. Gas mileage is about the same, the IS350 is an automatic, which would be somewhat nice.

I feel like it's a tough call because my CL-6 has all of the maintenance done, but has 115K miles. So I'm not sure how much longer she's gonna' hang in there until she needs some repairs. I was thinking about paying off my CL, trying to sell it to a local kid for $12-14K, and putting that down on an IS350 I could probably get for $28-29K for an '06.

Or just buy a blower instead.

What do you guys think?

With today's economy i wouldn't want yet another bill to put me deeper in debt. The CLS6 is a fun car, and with a blower its even more fun. You've already done the maintenance on it, why not just pay it off and enjoy it for now.

I agree ^^^

Keep the car and enjoy not having a car payment. Honestly - my car payment kept me from moving about 6 months ago because I can't afford to get a bigger house while I still am paying over $500/month (3G TL)

Kept the car, refinanced to a 15 year, and we'll see what happens.

(Not to turn this into debt talk, but I still agree that you should keep your baby)

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. The IS350 just has my attention right now but I should probably wait for the prices to drop some more, to $25K or so. We'll see what happens, it's a tough call honestly. I just bought a house and I'm very content right now with everything, so we'll see.

keep the cl for sure... i want a cl-6 so badly! haha ... but i love my tl-s and also enjoy not having any car payments anymore (granted i dont have a mortgage or anything, but still)

besides arent you going to miss driving MT (i dont think the 350 is offered in stick)

plus i dont really think mileage considered you will even get 12k for the cl... so imo stick it out, maintenance is done, drive it, enjoy it, maintain it.

if you are not tight on money get a the IS350 cause for one it is RWD and really fast lol. if you are tight on money, then just pay off the car and then get a new car. don't waste your money on a blower if you are having thoughts about getting another car. just save the money and either payoff your car (if not already paid off) or put a down on another car in the future. again, just my 2 cents.

I would just keep it. Every day some kinda car comes out that you want. Is it practical, probably not. I would keep it and sell it for a 4-door when the time comes. As for boosting it, you can if you want but if money is a little low, I would use the money another way.

Money is good right now no complaints just throwing all my extra money into home improvements or to paying down my car loan. How reliable honestly is the S/C with the HBP because what I don't want to do is I don't want to risk blowing my motor I know the S/C isn't GREAT for the car, but I don't want to blow my motor, etc.

My buddy that works at Acura will definitely put the blower on for me my only concern is the tuning.

x10 with everything already been said here.

Just keep the car and do what you like with it, another car payment now would suck.

Dude keep the CL... If you want to get the blower make sure you get it tuned, and you should be trouble free. But I would keep up the home improvements cause that might actually make you money in the long run.

I can't even compare the TL-S to the IS350 myself, but I'm going to hold off on the TL-S until next summer and keep modding the CL-6. I'm thinking about a BBK in the near future and of course the blower with the HBP and some tuning.

I wonder if it's possible to break into 12's with the HBP and bolt-ons given good conditions, etc.

i thought a backseat would come in handy as well but it doesnt. it just facilitates a mess. stick to the cl. its yours, its paid, its modded, and its fast

Well it's not that fast, yet. I just want to be able to pull away from E46 M3's, etc. And I know our cars are not 1/4 mile cars being FWD and heavy - but with DR's would it be possible to break into the 12's?

And also what kind of gains would one expect from tuning wouldn't that add another 30-40 WHP? I'm hoping the car with the S/C and HBP and some tuning feels like a totally different car.

I trapped 108 MPH on some worn 18" Pirellis... It can be done but the suspension and sticky tires will need to be also taken care of.

Even with just the stock blower pulley it does.

I have been reading up like crazy about the Comptech S/C and part of me really wants to go all around. I wanted the high boost pulley at 6 lbs. of boost but I read that there is a "max blower pulley" that's at 9 lbs.? Does anyone know if an intercooler is required? And is there anyway to put a blow off valve on a S/C? I know my buddy had one on his RSX-S I just didn't knojw if it was possible with our cars.

It adds WHP and TQ across the whole RPM range creating usable power. You'll think you dropped a larger motor into your car.

From what I'm understanding an intercooler is highly recommended if you go 9psi. As far as the max blower pulley, it's a smaller diameter pulley that goes on the blower itself. The CT HBP is the pulley that goes on the alternator and is larger diamater to increase boost.

Yeah I'm not sure if I really want to go with 9 PSI or not I just really want the most bang for my buck, etc. So the max blower pulley with the intercooler would be a decent setup and some tuning? Does anyone on here have this setup? Does the OEM clutch hold up okay? At what RPM does boost kick in at? Because in daily driving I always shift around 3K RPM's so I'm hoping my gas mileage isn't too negatively affected.

And the mods I have right now are:

- Comptech headers
- AEM cold air intake
- UR crank pulley

And I have this with stock '03 exhaust.

And what do you guys think of this:

https://acurazine.com/forums/car-parts-sale-361/sold-fs-wtt-turbo-kit-3-2-cl-s-389820/

Because I've always wanted a turbo on my CL-6 I just don't want to blow the motor. At 6 PSI tuned would this be as reliable as the S/C? I miss hearing the BOV so bad.

Thats a nice car, my bro has an 06 IS250, got one when they first came out. Very nice car, AWD, but I wouldnt trade my CL for it. I also drove the ISF, but a bit overpriced. I saw those at SEMA last november when they first showed them for a press event. Either way, the IS350 has some nice power.

I'll end up with the S/C for sure I just can't decide between the HBP and the max boost pulley. I wonder how much of a difference there would be in 6 PSI vs. 9 PSI.

Yeah I am going to end up keeping my CL-6 that's for sure.

I'm trying to figure out if anyone has reliably ran the max blower pulley at 9 PSI with an intercooler without issues? I would obviously run it tuned, etc.
