Trunk Lid Torsion Bar Bracket Problem...
I noticed the trunk lid (w/ spoiler, 2002 cl-s) was not closing right (wouldn't stay open) and after looking it over I noticed the center metal bracket (above the navi dvd unit) that holds the two trunk lid torsion bars was broken loose.
The torsion bars run the width of the car (above the navi dvd unit) and the bracket is in the center and is spot welded to the underneath of the rear deck. The spot welds came loose and it will be back to the dealer for a fix (under warranty).
Anyone else with trunk lid closing problems may want to check this bracket...and has anyone else had this problem before? I am wondering how the warranty fix will be done since it was spot welded at the factory...

Mine broke too.
I never got mine fixed 'cause I didn't want any hassle from the dealer ('cause of my system).
My trunk still closes fine though.

I was told that it would have to be welded back on.

Mine broke too, except that the bars came off from the ends of the bars. Now my trunk wont open easily. before it would be easy to open because the bars would help out with the weight, but now its harder. Does anyone know how to fix it? how do i pop it back in?

mine was fixed at the dealership (under warantee). The had to send the car off to get welded but it sounds like you have a different problem.

Yeah, mine broke too a year or so ago. I just drilled two holes where the welds were on the bracket and rear deck. Then, I screwed them in with locktite. Hopefully, that SOB never comes loose again.

My spot welds broke too, so I drilled and Pop riveted it back on. No subs, just another CL weak spot. That's pretty extreme to be welding it back on, when all it needs is four rivets. I chose rivets over screws because the sheet metal behind the bracket is too thin. Adding rivets should be done as a preventive measure before the bracket actually breaks loose....
