Hey, i just picked up a 2001 CL Type-s with 63,000 miles on it...noticed a slight whining noise coming from the tranny which becomes loudest at about 58-60 mph...seems to occur only when the trans is "pulling" the car and seems to disappear when "coasting"...is this something to be worried about???? Does anyone else have this issue, and is this possibley the beginning of a more serious problem????..especially with the bad rep these transmissions have recieved....i mean its not skipping gears or failing to engage or anything, but, in my opinion, this noise shouldn't be there. Please tell my what you think...

 

had that sound on my TL-S about 6k before the tranny went out. had the same sound on both my prelude's trannys before they died too. bring it back and ask questions.

 

thanks for the info...returned the vehicle today...the guy was awesome about the whole deal...gave me my money back...so, i guess i'm not gonna be driving a CL , but i guess from what i've read about these trannies, i might be better off...thanks for the info

 

My girlfriends CL-P makes a whinning noise that goes away when cruising and is there under acceleration, she's had it for 10k+ miles and no problems yet. On my CL-S I can start to hear a whine but its not as loud as the CL-P's.

 

yea I have that transmission whine on mine also. I have 62k on 2003 cls. If it goes out I hope it is not anytime soon but if it does die it better die before the warranty.

 

the whine has NOTHING to do with a bad tranny. it is a normal noise of the trans on the cl,tl and accord

 

Now you can go and purchase a 6 speed manual 2003 CL

 

I hope that is the case. I bought my cls last fall and had the whine noise when i got it. Been meaning to inquire on here more about it but it hasn't bothered me and the shifting has been fine for the time I have had it.

 

You can get the transmission replaced under warranty at any acura dealership on the CL. You shouldn't of returned the car. There was a recall on them for up to 113,000 miles.

Isn't the recall up to 113,000 OR 7 year. So if he was going to purchase an CL he would be better off to get an 03 since the 7 year is ending for the 01's.

 

i have that same noise and i have no idea what the hell it is. some local mechanic told me it was like suspension was broken and my tires were liek laying wierd..i dont know i knew he was full of shit, but i didnt think it was comign from the tranny..if thats teh case mine always does that and ive been drivin liek that for a lil while now. i mean im not under any warranty cept the tranny..do u think dealer will charge me to bring it in?..ima lil worried now..wat should i do
