Transmission Transformation
hello everybody, i currently own a 01' CLS auto, with about 35K miles on it, and i'm knowing someday the transmission will go out. Has a Auto to 6 speed Manual transmission change been performed yet? if not, can it be done? plus, would the 01' model be exact in size and shape inside, in order to fit the clutch and e-brake? thanks!

The answer is yes since you can pretty much do whatever you want with enough money... but honestly it would be cheaper for you to sell your car and get a 6-speed. There are is a laundry list of parts that would need to be swapped out as it's not just a tranny thing. You would need to remove VSA, swap out the ECU, console, etc. Trust me... way more trouble and money then it's worth.
BTW, just a side note... the odds are actually in your favor that your tranny will not go out. So it really would be cheaper just to sell your car and get a 6-speed.

I haven't heard of it being done. I'm sure it can be though. It would take alot of money however. If you traded the car in for a new 6 speed, it would be cheaper. The tranny alone would be $2k at least. Plus you'll need a whole bunch of expensive little parts, & then there's the labor.

nobody has done it yet.
it's been done on quite a few 4th gen. maximas though, from auto to 5 speed, looked like a crazy amount of work.
unless you were hooked up w/ parts and very mechanically skilled (plus have the time and facilities) it's not worth the $$ or effort.
