transmission specifics question...

ok, so we all know that acura finally admitted to problems with the 99-2003 auto 5 speed trannys in the CL/TL and gave us all extended warranties....and theres been talk of finally having a TRUELY NEW transmission to replace ours with that will eliminate the problem some people are having of tranny failure more than once because acura was replacing a shitty broken tranny with an identical shitty tranny...is there any confirmation on this "NEW" transmission that supposedly is a new design that doesnt suffer the fate of the original transmissions??

what about the fact that only SOME of the 2003 auto trannys qualify for the extended warranty....does that mean that there indeed IS a new tranny that they started using half-way through production of the 2003 CL?? if so, what is the difference between the 2 trannys???

in all honestly, if there is a "NEW REDESIGNED" transmission that will not fail and performs better, id like to try to either break the tranny i have now on purpose so i can get the new improved tranny or try to lie to the dealer and say mine is slipping and keep taking it in until they just agree to replace it.....

its pretty sad if acura actually went as far to design a new tranny to replace the admittedly SHITTY ones we are all stuck with and not issue a full-scale recall...so you only get a good, new, improved tranny if your existing one fails?? thats bullshit, we should all be intitled to a new, better engineered, better performing transmission if one indeed was created and all facts point to the conclusion that there probably IS a new transmission out there by now...

Remember, 99TLs aren't part of the warranty extension. We have the 4-speed tranny.

Almost 50,000 and no problems whatsoever....knock wood.

I feel the same way. I just got my letter last week, it's the 7 yr, 100,000 mile extened warrenty on the tranny. But it does not make me feel any better about driving the car, because I won't don't know when it's going to happen, and if they have a newly designed tranny, then I want it now too!

the 99's are exempt, although they shouldn't be. It's my understanding the trannies are the same as the accords.

Someone said on a past thread that the new replacements were the trannys from the Acura truck.

what about this guys, weve heard that acura has a policy on the tranny swaps that "under no circumstances are the dealerships to open up the tranny" they just take the unit down and put a new one up there....so if i were to....saaay.....go out and do NEUTRAL DROPS at about 4,500 rpms until the fucker blew, they wouldnt know because they arent allowed to open it up and so theyd just assume it broke the way that ALL the other ones do and give me the new, improved tranny, right??

You're exactly the reason companies usually stay HUSH HUSH about stuff like this and only fix the ones that break.
Maybe the Tranny under your hood will run fine for 200,000 miles and you want to break it just to get a new one right now.

I understand you’re frustration, but this is pretty stupid.

Wouldn't that mess up more than just your tranny? If not, I stil don't think you should say something like that on a internet fourm. I'm sure there are plenty of "Dealers" out there browsing this forum.

BTW Shawn, your Avatar (Devon) is very distracting... It keeps reminding me of the time when I saw her in person when she was a special feature at my local "Club". Damn she's tiny.. but HOT none the less...
