transmission fluid

My friend and I were discussing that I should get full syn oil change for my transmission, but the price is a big difference. is that necessary. I am thinking about a blend syn. anyone has any idea. My car just went over 100k, 2001 type-s cl....can this be done at home or do I have to bring it to a service center like jiffy lube.....

Are you talking engine oil or transmission fluid?

Engine oil: synthetic is fine
Transmission fluid: Either Honda Z1 fluid or Amsoil

see here,, mixing will NOT hurt anything,, if you don't want to do a nine qt flush,, just drain the 3 qts and add three qts of amsoil,, I do this every 20 k miles,, I'm at 110k mikes but on the 2nd trans (replaced at 89k). I also added a trans cooler at 25 k miles,,, tranny still failed,,, hopefully the new one will last to my target of 200k miles,, Syn oil is the best you can do.

the tranny's are failing mainly cause a lack of lubrication..

Thanks,, look in the tranny section and there is a HONDA FAILURE REPORT that list the various failure mechanisms,,, being a aeronautical engineer that primarily deals with failures I got a kick out of this stuff,,, for most people,, boring

stick to the honda stuff and get it done at the dealer. If you ever have any issues in the future you can at least show you tried to maintain the tranny according to Acura. I know it's BS but it'll help your case in the future. Unless you have a 6MT, which in that case go syn oil.
