trans fluid

Sup everyone,
k so i've been reading a bunch of threads about the tranny fluids and how a lot of people get it changed or flushed at every 30k miles or so. To my understanding , isnt the Honda ATF fluid suppose to be pinkish-red? I checked my tranny fluid and it was dark brown and i thought i have to change the fluid.

I called up Glendale Acura and asked the service guy about it and he's like the Honda ATF fluid is brown and not pink and that I don't need to change it for 6 years or 120k miles. I found this a little odd and contradictary to what i've read before

Can you guys clear up the confusion here??

personally, i don't know.
but why dont you try to call up another dealership and see what they say about it.
def can't hurt, and will only take 10 mins of your time. If you want to make a long distance call you can contact Park Avenue Acura here in Jersey. Everyone says they are great. (201) 587-0029

sorry i can't help more, ure avatar reaally distracts me, seriously, everytime i see it i call my gf and see if she's willing to come over .........

Noooo Andy. Brown is bad.. You want it be be reddish-pinkish in color.
Did you smell it ? Smell burnt ?

Get that baby changed out. On my CLS, I changed it every 15k miles, and now blades does the same.

His answer is complete BS, look in your owners manual and it will even tell you differently.

i was 99% sure that brown was bad and that pinkish red is the way it should be. And yes, i did smell it, it had a slightly burnt smell. Yeah i should schedule an appointment, but why change it every 15k mileS? the recommended is 30k when i called up 2 different dealers.

Whats going on bro ?

Yeah, I just remember reading that it was a good idea to get it done every 15-20k miles with the tranny problems. So I guess it is just more of a personal thing, guess I felt that I was giving it better care...and it might be working too, car now has 71k miles on it and still on the original tranny (even the way Blades drives )

Leave it in. I changed mine at 1,000 miles and then every 15,000 miles and the trans still took a at 61,000 miles. I do not think that anything will help this POS transmission.

Follow the manuals recommendations . I know BMW's nevr require fluid change to the transmission, wouldn't surprise me if the Acura is good for 6 years or 120K.

it's suppose to be a redish pink. my dad has a case of it for both his and my car. blackis brown isn't to good. but we change it every 3 oil changes or about 9000 miles. we also add one quart of lucus transmission stop slip with 2 quarts or so of honda atf. the shifts are alot smoother and it lubes the tranny better.

Go to the parts counter and buy a quart of the Z1 fluid. Compare it to yours and the answer is obvious.

as for the tranny flush done at the dealership, and the guys at the service dept told me that it is not a good idea and that they do not recommend doing this. Now i am thinking that doing a flush would clean out all the gunk in the tranny, but just replacing the fluid, it would still be dirty from the previous fluid. What is your opinions on this? I have 38k miles on my 03 cl-p now

get it done now, its not too late if you wait too long like 70000-80000 miles what happens is that the trans fulid turns acidic and when you put new stuff it the ph changes for the whole transmission and then the clutch material will peel right off the backing and say good bye to the trans. also you really can't do a flush on some of the cl-p trans, i herd its got something to do with the trans cooler and that they don't have a hook up for it, what i do is drain the trans, fill it drive it for 15 minutes, drain it again and fill it again drive it for another 15 minutes and for the last time drain it and fill it. this makes sure that maybe 70-80% of the fluid is new, just draining and fill will not get the fluid out of the torque conveter and the valve body.

civicking, you talk about draining it, filling and drive 15 minutes, drain and fill and drive 15 minutes, and repeating it one more time. I do not know how to change the trans fluid myself. But what do they do at the dealer? do they just drain it and fill it up once, or do they do something similar to the repeating of hte drain and fill?

it depends on the dealer, my local dealer does it that way too. i think its the best way. ask them, if they say something, ask them to do it your way and you will cover the cost of the fluid, they might not drive it, just start it but it will better than nothing, i like to drive it because it gets the clutchs and valve body moving and by doing that it will work out as much of the old fluid as possible.

I opted out on the 60k service. My service advisor told me this would be ok as long as I have the trani fluid replaced. Now I just had my trani replaced 5k miles ago.. Would i still need to change the fluid?
