Tranny Woes
Tranny Woes
Hi all,
Just letting you all know, I believe my tranny died. I've got a '01 CL-S with 69,845 miles. It happened when I pulled out of the parking garage onto the main road. As I'm driving while in automatic mode, doing 35 or 40 mph or so the car wanted to shift from 2nd to 3rd, but just reved to 5600 rpm. Kinda of startled me for a sec so I let off the gas, then boom my VSA light kicks on along with the check engine light. Luckly I was nearing a stop sign. So I stop the car, shut it off and started it again. The only thing that stayed on was the check engine light, however when trying to drive the car it would shift harder into 3rd. Luckly I was able to make it home in sport shift mode with me controlling the gears. I noticed that if you shift into a gear and then immediately press the gas the car would buckle like crazy, however if once you shift and wait a few seconds for the revs to die down and then press the gas it wasn't bad.
I called Acura Customer Service to log the problem and they told me to take it in to the dealer (Rick Case Acura). I told them I didn't feel safe so I'm having it towed. They better provide me with a rental or I'm going to raise hell.
I'm pretty sure it's the tranny and the funny thing is I've always replaced the tranny fluid every 30,000 miles.
I could definately understand how someone could lose control of their car if the tranny were to fail at a high rate of speed. It was very surprising at the degree of buckling the car exhibited.
Needless to say, I no longer feel safe in this vehicle with a new tranny or not. This has made my decision on the purchase of the WRX STI. I was still on the fence with the STI because of the lack of creature comforts. I figure I'll put a refundable deposit down and order the STI and once it comes in, take it for a ride and see how I would like it. But always in the back of my mind more than likely not purchase it. Well having gone through this experience with the tranny and no longer feeling safe, the decision has been made. Good bye CL.
Hopefully I will have better luck with Subaru...hey at least it's a 6 speed manual
I will log the problem with NHTSA once my dealer determines it to be a tranny failure.
PS what color would you all get for the WRX STI...blue, white, black, or silver? And what color rims...gold or silver? By the way, blue is the only color you can get the gold rims with, all the rest of the colors come with silver. I'm thinking either the blue with gold rims or the black with silver rims (less bling bling + I'm 32 years old). What do you all say? I already know how woman will react to the car...asked a few at my office and they think I'm reliving my high school years...guess what I couldn't care!

Found out yesterday that it is the tranny that went out on my car. I will be filing with the NHTSA.
I ordered a black with gunmetal/silver rims for my STI. Thank goodness I'm #2 on the list (the Subaru dealer I went to has 6 people on the list with deposits down of $1500)!
Hopefully the new tranny will last till June because that's when the STI is suppose to arrive...can't wait!

I would've said blue, but I have a feeling that color is going to be VERY popular. You'll probably start to see more and more rice boys driving around in that color.
