After watching this video two things became clear to me:
1) H&A rebuild process is better than what you would typically expect from any tranny shop such as AAMCO.
2) There is still a LOT of human factor to make decisions and inspect parts. I think there is a good percentage of failures that are simply due to human error and not rebuild process.

x2, and keep the tranny clean when you are rebuilding it, like not letting dirt and such getting inside of it (a spec of dirt could potentally keep a check valve slightly open, or make one of the valves stick in its bore)

and plain out not taking their time to rebuild it properly, and fully inspecting it

I got two more years warranty on my transmission. If it goes after 2 years I think I will just throw away the car, at that point spending $2-3K on a car that is only worth 3K is stupid.

acura mechanics from 03ish and before do know/should know how to rebuild the transmissions. I dunno why you guys think they are incapable of a good trans rebuild.

honda started these transmission kits because of OUR tranny issue. It was then they decided to swap transmissions versus rebuild then... simply because it was the more efficient thing to do. that cause a lot of dumb ass mechanics to form since they no longer needed to know how to build a trans... just install it.

So if u know a master tech who's been around before 03ish that's ur guy to build ur tranny.

However, when u rebuild... every time there is something different and if HONDA does the rebuild you can pretty much bet they'll have a routine which may very well miss some vital attributes with regards to the rebuild. Which really is why I PREFERED to get mine rebuilt as opposed to getting a different tranny.

Acura gets the whole thing back and then they tear them down and scrap the bad or non reusable parts.

There are several revisions of PTCM out there as well go look in the trans thread

Manual Transmission yes! Auto Transmission no. I don't remember American Honda training school have modules on rebuilding auto transmission. Next time when you are at your Acura dealer, ask their master tech if they are qualify to rebuild auto transmission. The 15+ years I was working for Honda and Acura, I have not seen any master tech rebuilding auto transmission in house. I did a few auto transmission case swaps due to accidents but never had to rebuild them. In 2001-04 I have as many as 8 cars waiting for me to install transmission! If I was to break every transmission open, order parts then rebuild them all. It may take weeks if not months for customers to get their car back. Back then our only concern is to replace trans and get car back to their owners ASAP!!!.

k well then it must have been pure fluke that the guy who did my trans was a master tech at acura and had been working for Honda, then when acura became acura he worked with them till present. And did mine on the side w/o quitting my day job.

much longer wait, but i saved a fortune

Maybe, Acura/Honda techs near me don't know crap. And when they do they won't help you. See the service manager. No interest on side jobs.
