Tranny and tiptronic

How well does the type s hold up on its tranny using the tiptronic. Mines a 2001 with 38000 mile. Bought it for 22500. How can I tell if theres any problems before I start putting all the aftermarket parts on.

There will be some symptoms before your tranny blows. On top of that I belive your year has an extended tranny warranty.
When you put your car into reverse the gear will bang and shifts between 2nd and 3rd will be really rough. I guess there's more but when its time for tyour tranny to go its gonna go. I'djust mod the car.

if u see all the instrument cluster lights go on, yer fooked

if yer shifts r harsh and banging into gear, that's a tell-tale sign...if going into Reverse is harsh as stated above, or if Reverse flat out doesn't work, that's a tell-tale sign

check the tranny fluid's color...if it's more red than brown, yer alright...if it's brown or black, clutch paks r burnin up, and u should go right to Acura...use something white, like a paper towel or cloth, so u can see the true color of the tranny fluid

It doesn't matter if you use the sport shift or D4/D5 .. everytime it shifts betwen 2 & 3 (in either direction) it is prematurely wearing itself out. Some say that SS mode allows you to hold one gear or the other if conditions are right so that it doesn't shift between them repeatedly.

Doesn't matter, I always use SS. In the tranny section members have done polls to see if tranny failure is related to using SS mode Vs. Auto, and the point was it didn't really matter, they stil failed. We (Auto owners) have 7 yr/100k powertrain warranty, So if she acts up, take her in.

Hey so.....if you end up passing 100k miles.....say you have 115k miles on your car, and you've already replaced your tranny twice from your dealer, and say your tranny goes out AGAIN...will you have to pay for it this time? or will they still fix it for free since its a KNOWN problem of theirs?

Hmm, guess it would depend on how good of a relationship you have with your service department, and if it is the same one you "would" have used for the first 2 trannies.:P
