Tranny Oil - if you have not done it...
Changed tranny and motor oil today at 12K miles.
There was a lot more metallic deposits on the transmission plug magnet than I would have expected... or liked.
For those of you that don't know it, most transmissions have a magnet as part of the drain plug to help catch metallic particles that result from normal wear.
I was just not expecting as much as I saw.
This makes me think that this fluid was not replaced during the 7.5K check-up.
My tranny was working fine but now seems to shift quicker during normal driving. I have not felt a noticeable difference in SS.
Thought I'd let you know.

why the hell are people keep changing the tranny oil so early? That is way too early to replace transmission oil. Is there something I don't about the transmission in the CL?

The manual says every 30K miles. I like doing it as often as I feel. It takes about 20 minutes and can make a big difference in the end.
BTW - why is it that some people get so pissed at other people that do take good care of their cars?

how come CA and NJ people only have their locations listed? it would be cool to see where everyone else is from....
anyway, i was talking to my mechanic friend a couple days ago. he's worked at many different dealerships bmw, mb, lexus, acura etc. but now runs his own service shop. he advised me to change the transmission oil every 30,000 miles....explained some technical stuff. the stuff is not like motor oil.

I want to change my tranny fluid but my dealer just wont let me talk them in to changing it till 15k miles. Is this something I can do? Now mind you I have done minor things like installing spark plugs and putting in a intake. I am not scared to take shit apart. Anyone have any instructions?

yeah, i've had some friends who say their dealers wouldn't let them change the tranny oil so early. you can get it done somewhere else, right? What about the manual talking about Honda oil only and other minor things shop could mess up on?

haha, transmission fluid seems like a touchy subject looking at past postings.

15,000 miles works for me. You can only drain about 1/2 the oil in the transmission when using the drain plug.

some people say negative effects could arise if you change it too often. (i cant back that up). that might be the reason why dealerships dont want to change it too soon
i dont see why you wouldnt just follow the owners manual. the tranny is covered under warranty for a pretty long time

Of course you can change your motor&tranny oil as often as you want, I've no problem with that

Just follow the book... The dealers know what this car needs. Lets not get excessive for no reason. Park ave Acura said they have only come across a few electronic related problems.

Wayne G. at Park Avenue interceded in this conversation before. He said the "recommended" interval was 30,000 miles. However, he also said if he was advised that the car was driven in "severe" conditions (I am not sure of the definition of severe) then 15,000 was recommended. I also believe that transmission oil is very corrosive when new. Maybe Tom, Eric, or Gavrill can help out here.

After I get back from Panama City on Sunday I will have around 12k miles on it. I plan on taking it into the dealer to have a oil change and get my mirror and sunroof fixed. Do you have any updates about your tranny?
