Is the Tranny Flush bad news?
Ok, I'v gotta get over the dealer soon for many things, one of the thing I was gonna have done was a tranny flush, but I remember there was a question about weather a flush would lead to the failure of the tranny, I'v got an 03 CLS, with a vin that is not in the 100k warrenty, so supposedly it's "ok". I guess wanted some opinions on if the tranny flush was bad or not, if so I'll just have the tranny fluid changed. On a side not when have poeple gotten there stock break pads changed and what did it cost?

I would check with the service tech about the flush. I never did one on my other car and never had a problem.
I got my brakes done at my machanic and the price was pretty cheap. About half what they told me at the dealer. There was about 40K on the car at the time.

Yeah I've Heard That If You Flush Your Tranny After 50,000 Miles That It Could Lead To Failure. This Was At A Valvoline Or Something When My Buddy Went To Get It Done In His Legend. The Manager Was A Friend Of Ours And He Actually Said He Wouldnt Do It.

I had one done when I had 7,000 miles on my car as well as when I had 30,000, both were dealer recommended. I now have 52,000 miles and never have had a problem and I am part of the tranny recall.

I have never had one in various cars and never had a problem with the trannys. I have had tranny fluid changes if the manufacturer had it in their schedule.
From what I understand as the manufacturers make the cars more maintenance free the dealers and lube joints have to find a way to keep their income coming in. So now you have engine flushes, fuel system flushes, tranny flushes. I think most of it is unnecessary if you follow the manufactuers schedules. Some say it dislodges crap and it doesn't all flush out causing problems you didn't have.

since i'd heard of all the tranny problems, i had my friend, which owns an oil change joint, flush and change the fluid (first at about 10K, second at 20K). the first time, he found plenty of metal shavings on the magnetic drain plug, which cant be good. the second time, not many shavings.
at about 25K, i had the jet kit installed and havent flushed since (30K now).

Drain and fill won't change all the fluid. If the fluids still red (not burn't) I just do that. If the fluid is burn't I'd either flush or do many changes to try to get it all out.

the only way to properly flush it is with a pump that would run new tranny fluid through and push it out the other end, if you try to drain it, you will only get 6 quarts. It takes about 18 quarts in total.
