tranny fluid question

so I took my CL-S for the 100K maintenance (and change a few parts at same time, IMRC valve, external tranny filter, calibrate valves)... I am asking the guy to do the 3X3 oil change on tranny, while I´m explainin what is the 3X3 he tells me that what he does is dissconect two hoses from tranny, that way he flushes out total fluid (he sais is like 9 quarts) and then new oil is sucked in from a bucket (submerging one of the hoses in it) by starting engine and filling the whole tranny with the 9 quarts again.... does that make sense to anyone? mechanic sais he learned that from the Honda guys at dealership... All comments highly appreciated.

that is called a flush, not recommended by Honda. find a different mechanic.

I dont think its really a flush cause the flushes we usually talk about is hooking it up to a flush machine which uses pressure to force the new fluid in and old fluid out.

I did OP's way on my mom's camry and it worked fine. Although, if its not too much hassle/cost, I would do it the tried and true method: 3x3.

attaching hoses creates suction pressure that could be harmful for our glass tranny. your mechanic is looking after himself because to do 3x3 requires more of his time.

you dont really need 3x3, just change it every 15K miles 3qt and thats more than enough

I do not have many options for mechanics here, this guy is supposed to be good. He had already done the flush when I read the posts advising not to do it... a bit late now and no use crying over spilled fluid. Anyway, they: re-calibrated valves, replaced valve cover gaskets, replaced timing belt kit (complete seals and tensors), water pump, replaced external tranny filter, replaced IMRC valve, replaced two wheel bearings, replaced motor mount, engine oil/filter change, air filter replace, replace 6 spark plugs, tranny flush, computer scan... all for $325 in labor. Picking it up today, hope she is running great and cross fingers that my poor delicate tranny is not harmed. I will keep doing my 3 quarts change for the tranny every each other engine oil change. Thanks to all.
