Tranny failure questions??
Since I'm picking my CL-S up next week, I am a little scared about these tranny issues. Can you guys tell me what years, or build dates this affects. What milage these cars had, & how hard they were driven. Are these issues fixed in the 2002 models. For those who have had a tranny replaced, what failed on the tranny, & are the replacement trannys built better, & what's been changed in them so they don't fail again. I had my share of tranny problems in fords before. I drive hard, fast, put on about 25K miles a year & drive 1500 miles trips. I'm really concerned here. I brougth this up to the dealer, & they said they only had 5 cases since late 2000.

It's too early to tell if the '02s have been fixed, but the odds are that they have (although you never know). There was a post a while back that had a serial number on it for the tranny. If your number was higher, you should be fine, if it was lower, you may (read: may) have a problem. If you do a search you can probably find it.......

From what we can tell, it's just random. Just enjoy the car and don't change the way you drive. If it's gonna die, it's gonna die, and your warranty will cover it.
I know, that doesn't make me feel better either. :o

And there has been no apparent pattern to link failing trannies, it seems to be random. I doubt the trannies have been changed to fix the problem since people were getting calls about a month ago from Acura to "research the situaion." Which means that they don't even know what the problem is yet.

Exactly, get a car with a real tranny.

"They (Acura) called me at work today and said that the main problem with our transmissions is a "Tapered Roller Bearing" that was going bad. I have no idea what this is, but he said they have since redesigned this part"

Hey, I just took this pic for ya to help locate the tranny code, in case you wanted to find it on yours.
Maybe this is FAQ-tual.
