Tranny Cooler clarification

I've searched already and done some other research but have a couple of questions:

1.) Does the Comptech kit indeed use a B&M cooler? If so it would be less expensive to buy the B&M one. Which size though as it looks like they have two universal sizes? If not, is the $ difference worth it?

2.) Where is the best place to buy these? Optionsauto.com looks like a decent buy.

3.) Is it really necessary to cut into the oil jet to give the best results? That would definitely increase the level of difficulty.

Thanks all.

1.) To my understanding, the actualy cooler is the same. Comptech kit does have specialized brackets making the install a little easier, but I would say save the money and go for B&M. The install is pretty easy.

2.) Check ebay, I got mine for $50 shipped

3.) Check out Scalbert's install

1) you are better off buying a B&M or hayden cooler from autozone considering what CT will charge you. the one i got from AZ is the same size and design. there are basically 2 sizes as you said, i would opt for the smaller black one. it's not worth the extra money since the tranny cooler will not keep the 5sp automatic tranny from failing.

whether the CT kit is easier to install i wouldn't know but i didn't find the generic one difficult to install given what they give you to mount it with. just my

2) see above (autozone, pepboys, etc.)

3) NO!!!!!!! do not cut into the oil jet!!! just remove the external hose that bridges the inlet and outlet pipes. buy about 16ft of hose (8 for the send line, 8 for the return). this is a modification that can be installed in a completely reversible manner.

i thought i paid 115 for my ct cooler.

ct also provide enough hose, brackets, and hose clamps. your going to end up spending about another 25 on hose because the b&m kit doesnt give enough. don't forget 2 hose clamps. your up to about $80 and you can mount it with the cheap plastic zips or the metal brackets ct provides.

how much does josh at excelerate get the kits for?

I'd rather get the whole kit as opposed to piecing it together. Does anyone have more info on this Josh at Excelerate?

not to be a dick, but i don't know who ripped you off man. i payed maybe $15 for the extra hose and two 30 cent clamps from home depot.

i have only seen the comptech brackets on their site and they do look easier to install than the plastic ties B&M gives you, BUT i will say that those plastic ties aint going anywhere. i've had it on for a year with the ties and it's not loose. and that's through an extreme winter here this year, two heat waves, and a hell of alot of potholes. the comptech site lists the cooler as $149 (just checked). for $60-$70 you can have the same thing with an extra trip to home depot for the hose clamps. actually i bet autozone has hose clamps too.

obviously it's your money so do what makes you happy, but at least you know your options.
