true... but if I won't have any real gains it's just not worth it for me to get under there and do this mod... it's just a pain in the ass to do it is all, not so much the expense for $$$ but time.

Why? It's rare that a M/T would run hot. Unless there is something wrong with the tranny or you're road racing the car (and I mean like in real racing on a track, lap after lap) there is no need.

It's never a bad idea to have a better cooler.

Such a thing exists? Never heard of a tranny cooler for a stick before?

well tranny coolers are universal aren't they? it's basically like adding a radiator to your fluids for your trany fluids right?

True I think what you are seeing is for an A/T tranny. A/T trannies have transmission fluid that needs to be cooled to allow for smooth shifting. Manual trannies just have gear oil that really doesn't need to be cooled

Yep, I agree. It's a waste of money for a street/strip car. For a dedicated road course car, maybe, but I'd have to see some tranny temp numbers before making that decision.

Unnecessary. I wouldn't waste my time or money.

If you're going that route you should also get a brake fluid cooler, a clutch fluid cooler, and differential/bearing fluid cooler. Don't forget to cool the drop of grease that lubricates the door hinges.

I also have special air imported from the arctic to fill my tires up with. I hear that cooler tires grip better. You know it does say on the sidewall to measure cold tire pressure.

I don't think you need a cooler for a manual and wouldn't think you could ever drive it that hard . . . unless you are running in the 24 Lemans race or something like that.

Also, I've never paid much attention to a manual tranny cooler and would have thought there was no such thing. :P

In my opinion, there are some manual tranny gear oils that might make sense. Specialty oils from NEO, Royal Purple and perhaps Redline may have something for you.

The benefits from these are better shock loads, cooler running, less friction to name a few.

There is such a thing. They're for pure racing applications. There are differential coolers too.

Some Audi's have manual transmission coolers. Actually I think all the newer S4s have one. Might be difficult to make use of a cooler on a CL though as there is no pump in the trans.

If you are doing racing on the track then the trans coolers is not a bad idea.

An Auto has a tranny pump to flow your fluid through a cooler. I didn't think a Manual Gear box had a pump so how would that cooler work? Do they come with their own pump? What force circulates the oil?

That's correct. You need a complete set up including a pump. Also a place in the airflow to mount the cooler. Then you have to plumb the lines from the cooler to the tranny, being careful not to leave them exposed where they could be damaged by road debris etc. I'd suggest aeroquip lines for anything under the car.

Another bonehead mod... complete waste of money... I've never heard of anyone in roadracing and/or offroad racing use a MT cooler... simply switch to a good synthetic gear oil.

Agreed, really dumb for the street. But used in racing more than you might think.

Funny. I was thinking I might need a 6 mt tranny HEATER for the upcoming winter. The manual does not like it when its fluid is cold.

Then don't let it cool off, keep driving fast!

Actually, one would think they would make a little plug in heater just like they do for the engine block (for both manual and automatic transmissions). Frigid (15 - 20ºF or below) temperature makes shifting sluggish.

Good thought.

Unless you over cool them. In the manual tranny, if the oil isn't hot enough, you can accelerate wear. Since there really isn't any heat generation in the manual, you could have some nasty, harsh shifting issues. Especially if you drive in winter.
