Tranny # 2 potentially
I just started noticing issues with the car where it randomly does not catch first hear. I will be at a light and hit the gas and the car will rev but not move, I let go of the gas and then it catches and goes.
I am going to Acura of tempe this week to get it looked at but wanted to see if anyone had this issue or was aware of it.
I know the tranny issue was mostly with 2nd gear. I am not getting any warning lights etc. This has happened about 5 times now over the last 3 weeks or so.
I am wondering if this could be anything other than a tranny issue? Also does anyone know how much acura dealers charge for tranny replacements parts and labor? Just trying to get a rough estimate in the worst case senerio.
Car is an '01 type S with 84k miles.

If it is truely the tranny what options do I have at the dealer? Will they swap for a non CL tranny? Like the TL or Odessey as other posts are suggesting?

seeing that your car is an 01 i believe the warranty is out. If you have warranty i highly doubt they will do a tl or oddy tranny they would probably bs you and just swap in another rebuilt tranny. Might be able to make a deal with them saying you'll pay 50/50 for the tranny and have them swap it in for free. You never know ask them im pretty sure its your tranny going out.

If it is the Tranny they are saying roughy 3900 for parts and labor plus a 3 yr 36k warranty on the transmission. I have opened a case with Acura as well to see if they will assist. Definitely not in warranty at this point.
Going to the dealer tomorrow am to get it checked. Brings back the topic of should I ditch the CL and go for a new ride or keep hanging on. I love the damn car but almost 4 k at this point not so sure if its worth it.

The dealer confirmed that I need a new tranny, they are working with acura to see if they will give me any goodwill help.
In the meantime, I called a local transmission place and they will install a OEM rebuilt tranny for 2200 and two the car from the dealership for me. Also includes a 2 yr 24k warranty on the tanny.
Any reason I should not go with the local shop if Acura wants anything more than 3k for the repair?

I agree, this sounds too cheap. I am staring at my bill from a third party shop that paid $2599 for the OEM transmission. Are you sure their quote does include labor?

They quoted 1795 for the tranny and specifically said it was OEM rebuild and then 375 or so for labor with the 24k warranty.
Acura has said 2900 for the Tranny and 900 for labor. I am still waiting on if acura care will assist.
I am unsure about the local shops as well but if I want to keep the car for another year or so and then sell it, its hard to spend 4k on the repair.
Also looking into trading in not sure what acura will give me for the car (still waiting on a price) They have an 09 TL SH-AWD loaded listed for 39k (14k miles) and then an 08 TL Type s (24k miles) for 31k. Gotta see what they can bring both the prices down to.

I believe that both Acura and the local shop (Premier Transmission) will be using an OEM rebuilt transmission. I am still waiting on the service manager and the Acura district manager to see what they can do for me in terms of goodwill etc.
The second tranny lasted less than 50k, the car only has 84k on it. They should be replacing trannies on these cars (all impacted) for free and just charging labor or something. I can not believe that folks are on their 4th or 5th tranmissions and still paying for the repair. I am having a hard time coughing up the money for #2 given that the car is worth maybe 7k.

Just found out that Acura will split the cost with me so I pay 2k for a install from acura with a 3 yr / 36k warranty. I was trying to get a smoking deal on an 09 SH AWD but they werent coming close to where I wanted to be.
Looking forward to tranny # 2.

Not a bad deal at all considering the warranty.
