trading in my cl-s for one of these...

Mitsubishi is selling the Lancer in the US for 2002. Hopefully, they will bring over the Lancer GSR Evolution VII at some point. It has a 2.0L 16V DOHC I4 and an intercooled turbo with 17lbs of boost and water injection that puts out 280hp. It also has AWD and does 0-60 in 4.4s. It can do the 1/4 mile in 12s on pavement and 14s on dirt. It comes with Recaro seats and Brembo brakes (17" front / 16" rear). I would trade in my car in a second for one of these. They should only cost $25K.

Yeah, that is the EVO VII in the pictues. They don't make it in the US yet. Most of them are right hand drive. I hope it doesn't cost more than $30K. I'd love to have one. Then I could really race Porsches

Were those stats you quoted for the one available in '02 USA, or were those for the EVOII that won't be here for a few more years?

This sounds like the whole Subaru WRX joke. We get a weak version with the hint of the STi possible in a couple more years.

Not to down grade a fast ride, but I don't find the lancer to be a very nice looking car compared to the CL-S. Any thoughts?

Hmmmm...good choice.

I'd kill for an Evo, my fave being the V and VI.

I heard the Evo VII is only going to be around 220 hp like the WRX is, is that true?

If we ever get the EVO VII in the US it will probably be detuned but hopefully a chip or ecu will fix that. 220hp is not bad to start with, though.

2002 Mitsubishi Lancer

Floundering in a sea awash with the likes of the Honda Civic, Ford Focus and Volkswagen Jetta, Mitsubishi's Mirage Sedan is going to sink this summer. But when it does, it'll be replaced by an all-new car, the 2002 Lancer. The car has a 125-hp Four available with adaptive shift control or a five-speed manual. Suspension is struts up front and a multilink arrangement in the rear. You get a choice of three trim levels: the base ES, upscale LS and a unique OZ Rally package. Interior space is greater in every dimension compared to the current Mirage. In fact, the rear-seat legroom is as good or better than most competitive sedans. The two-door Mirage will continue as the price leader.

Could that OZ Rally edition take on the WRX?? Or is it gonna just be some exterior packaging and some plastic trim to "oooh" and "aaah" the teenagers. If they're indeed serious about taking on Subaru's AWD, they will indeed bring something to the table to combat the WRX, and if Subaru does bring over the STi version and sales benefit, than I don't see why Mitsubishi wouldn't do the same unless their sales of their counterpart to the WRX flounder, if they even do bring a counterpart over to combat it. Couple that with already old rumors of the a toned down Skyline hittin the states in 2005...could we finally be getting the other Japanese Supercars we were never deemed entitled to???

No, the ES, LS, and OZ Rally are all non turbos with 120hp and 130lb*ft torque.

Sport Compact Car drove a modified EVO VI and said it made the Skyline feel slow!

Yeah, the CL-S is definitely classier but the EVO is an all out rally race car. The wing looks a little ricey but it is functional. The interior of the EVO is awesome IMO.

I know I'm definitly judging the car before I see one in person and i shouldn't, but I think the combo of the big wing (not too fond of it) and the rims, I don't find them to be a good match. Just my opinion, everything is subjective to taste I realize that. I have no doubt the specs sound fantastic, I just hope it doesn't get neutered when it hits the shores.

I like the interior too frederix. I'd like to have those seats and brakes as well.

I'm going to trade in my CL-S for this heap:

Can you imagine some fool actually repairing that? Fords have enough rattles new. After all that damage it won't be the same. Bury it.
