Trading in for a 6 spd....good idea?

I plan on trading in for a 2003 6 spd.....the good thing about this is that i can transfer all my mods onto the 6 spd. from my 2001 type-S....i was planning on trading in for a used S4, but they're too expensive...anyway...i'm gonna go to the dealer sometime this week, what kind of trade in value can i expect?

my car:
2001 CL-S (w/ navi)
a little over 8500 miles (when i got the car it was the DEMO model, so it had a little over 5K miles on it...)
one accident

tryna get:
2003 CL-S (w/navi)

please help me out, i wanna know how much i should be lookin at for a trade in value, and what a 6 spd. (w/ navi) would go for....maybe i can get a better deal being a repeat customer..??..

i don't want RWD....it's too much trouble around here in the winter...(if it snows)...if i wasn't worried about that, i would prolly lean toward a 350Z or S2K, maybe G35 coupe...but, i narrowed my choices down to a 2000-2001 S4, or 6 spd. CL....S4's are too expensive, i have yet to find one with less then 20,000 miles in my price range, so i doubt i could get one....

In order to get a S4, i would have to SELL my car (for like 25-26g's just to be able to afford a $32,000 used S4 (about 30,000 miles), and i would go through a lot of trouble tryna sell my mods...)

But if i were to trade in for a CL, i could just transfer all the mods, and have Navi (it's hard finding S4 with navi, plus the ones that do are like 38 g's, plus their navi's suck IMO), and i might even be able get a descent deal being a "repeat customer"....

...what do you guys think about my trade in value, and how much i might be able to get a 6 spd. w/navi for ??? (my car is paid off, and i don't wanna have to finance like 8 g's...maybe around 6...)

well i am assuming you will get $24k for your car and a 03 6 speed with navi will run about $30,700-$31,500 and i think that would be a good deal

either way it looks like you will be financing about 6-8k

would you consider down grading to a 6 speed Honda accord coupe? I think you could get a pretty good deal with navi too

Your 2001 hardly has any miles on it. Why spend extra 8k for the same exact car? Thats like spending 8k for a manual.

I wouldnt do it, but there are people who would.

Keep what you have.......unless you gonna get something different. 8K just to get a manual doesn't sound appealing

yeah... keep what you have... don't tkae such a hit like that... unless you've got big moneybags to burn then I'd sya stick with your auto... if you'r gonna spend more money how about a BMW or G35 or 350Z?

Huh, I'm impressed at all of the responses...

I agree 100%, wait awhile and buy something else... A TLS might not be a bad decision. But there is still no 6mt for it

The 6-Speed Tranny makes this car entirely different.
Believe me, I know.

SicK TypeS,
Talk to the dealer and find out the numbers.
Drive the car for yourself and see what you think.
If you like it and want one, make the swap.

I’m happy I did and will enjoy the car much better now.
I’m keeping it for 100K so I’m not too worried about trade values.

You'd be taking a bigger lose, and it boils down to the time value of money as well.

Personally, I wouldn't do it. Even though I have a stable job and make well.

I agree with a lot of the guys on this. While the 6spd would be nice, its not worth the $8k you'd be out of pocket. If you REALLY want a 6spd it would prob be cheaper than the $8k to convert your car from auto to the 6spd. Now that would be a nice mod.

Good advice about driving the car first. You can get some idea of the trade-in value fromedmunds.com another source for trade-in values is http://www.kbb.com/ .

Hope this helps,

it does sound expensive just to trade in for a manual....i really don't wanna keep my 2001 because of the tranny...it didn't go yet, but...i don't wanna wait till it's too late....i'm gonna go to the dealer sometime this week so i can get some things fixed (rear deck rattle, passenger side seatbelt won't retract, center console "cover" won't stay down, keeps popping back up)...i wanna talk to my salesman about #'s, and if what i hear is right, i MIGHT do it....i got my car for $28,000 w/ navigation (type-s), only flaw was that it was a DEMO and had about 5k miles on it, even though i am the first owner....i figure if i can get this sort of deal again, why not go for the 6 spd....plus the money i would get back from the extended warranty from Honda will help with the trade in...

p.s. i bought the car in December of 2001 cause of the deal i was being offered....i didn't get my license untill June 2002 cause of a suspension i had....since then i only put about 3k miles on the car, i don't go on long road trips except once to Atlantic City for HIN, and i go to NYC (25-30 min.) few times a month...

Oh i'm not saying the number of people who traded is the reason behind it. ONly saying it's personal preference and what is important to the individual driver.

Same thing for you in the 330ci. I didn' t buy it cause i didn't think a 40k car right now was the right move but for you it was.....is it any more justified for you than it is for me? Nope

No matter how sweet of a deal you will be offered, you will get fucked in this deal. So listen to most people here and let it be. Not really worth it.

Actually I think there are about nine or ten of us here.
Most of the guys don’t post much but I remember seeing their initial reports.

Like I said above, run the trade numbers and take a test drive.
Decide for yourself, don’t follow the crowd.

If you HATE the Slush-Box as much as I did, it’s worth it.
If the 6-Speed CL never came out I would probably be in a different car (and maybe brand) by now.
I hated the thing THAT much.

Look at it this way...I had a 2k1 CLS wo/navi and I've never owned a manual tranny car nor driven one!

I went for a test drive and I'll put it this way, it was so easy even a newbie stick driver like myself can drive the car off the lot and all around town!!! for the first time!! I didn't even know that the clutch wasn't the same as other cars (it being so light)..

I got raped on the trade in deal (how can you not after you have paid $32k for a new one and trading it in for a $34k same car model)...but all in all even with a busted engine at 4k miles, I am very pleased with the purchase.

You only live once...if you don't have any family to support, then sometimes you just have to say "what the fuck...." and just do it if you really feel like you enjoy the car that much more....

Before my trade in, I racked in about 27k miles and I think I had the tranny blues too...so I know how you feel about having the car and having the tranny go out later on..

You can go for other new cars like the G35C, 350z and other nicer new cars...but shit, if you get this 6speed cls, you won't see so many of them on the road...that is why I really like my car...in seattle, I rarely see 6 speed CLS w/navi rollin' on the road

Good luck on your decision...and I must agree with everyone else that loves the 6speed cls, it's really a joy to drive...and the engine sounds are niiiice too

let's say for a second that i got a 350z, if i put snow tires on it, would it make it a lot easier to driver in the winter (if their is snow on the ground)...btw...their are a lot of hills in my neighborhood...you guys think it would almost be the same as driving FWD uphills in snow??? that's all my main concern is with RWD, not turning, but rather getting up hills in the snow (2-3 inches worth) if snow tires make theat much of a difference, maybe i could consider a car like the 350z...
