Trade in value
I went to a nissan dealer yesterday to talk about a 350Z. They gave me a price on it and then appraised my car. They said they would give me $17000 for my car. Whata bunch of crap. Why cant I get more? Everyone I see around here is selling for at least 23000. I hate trade ins.

Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought our cars would have taken such an astronomical hit in price over 2.5 years! People are getting 15-17K on trade-ins recently. That;s 50% depreciation on what a dealer would give you as a trade.
Hell, I've seen them advertised in the paper for 19k for 2001's from private sellers.
When my sister bought her used 98 CL2.3 about 1.5 years ago that thing had held its value waaaaaay better than our car has.
Hell, she could probably sell hers for 17 and pick up a cls for 19!

I think I might try to sell it myelf. Has anyone had any experience with autotrader? What is a good asking price? It has 33,000 miles. I would almost rather sell it to you for 17100 than to a dealer.

17K for a 2001 CL-S is just a ripoff...
I'm really curious to why some people are getting such low offers for their cars? Granted, there is depreciation in our cars, but it's not that bad!!!
I was offered 24K for my CL-S for trade. 6000 miles...
Tell the dealer to jam it and try and sell it privately. Unfortunately, a lot of people looking to buy cars these days are either looking to get a new one a 0%, or they're looking for a used car which costs much less. With this economy, I would imagine one would be hard pressed to sell their car for around a 20K pricetag. There just isn't a market for that kind of price right now.

I took my CL-S to the dealer for servicing last week. They have 4 used 2001 CL-S on the lot. Of the 4, 2 have been sitting there for close to 60 days the other 2 for more than 30 days. I saw my salesman and asked what type of trade I'd get for my '02 CL-S with less than 5K miles, NAV and spoiler, he said $23-24K, MAYBE $1500- $2K more if didn't have any on the lot. He pretty much told me they didn't want it as a trade. So much for these cars holding their value... :-(
